While James Gunn is now filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, we will see the ragtag group a couple of times before that movie arrives next year. First members of the Guardians team will be joining Thor in Love and Thunder this summer, and then we will see them again in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in December. In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Gunn called the new special “the greatest thing he’s ever done in his life” and seemed to suggest that it is more wild and unbelievable than anything he has previously been a part of.

There is not much known about where the Holiday Special will fit into the Marvel timeline, but Gunn has previously hinted that it would be a good idea to watch it before going into the third Guardians movie, which itself is expected to bring their story to a close – at least with their current line-up. It doesn’t take much to spark speculation amongst Marvel fans about anything to do with the MCU, so Gunn’s tweet in October last year claiming that the Guardians Holiday Special would introduce one of “the greatest new Marvel characters” to the franchise, leading to many fan-theories of exactly who could also be appearing in the Disney+ exclusive.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

In his new interview, Gunn confirmed that the Guardians Holiday Special will definitely be debuting in December and will be “unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before.” That may be a big boast, but coming from James Gunn, it is hard not to believe it. He said:

“The Holiday Special is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life. It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it. And it’s out pretty soon. You know, it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.”

James Gunn Has Switched From Marvel To DC In A Big Way For His Next Projects

Having worked on the previous Guardians of the Galaxy movies, James Gunn would possibly have been too busy working with Marvel to have crossed over to helm The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros., but thanks to his temporary sacking by Disney a few years ago, Gunn has now found a new freedom working with Warner Bros. on more adult themed superhero content with the likes of Peacemaker and he is doubling down on that side of the comic book coin for now.

Once completing his Guardians work, he will next be heading back to Warner Bros. to bring John Cena’s Peacemaker back for a second season, and after stating that he plans to work on TV shows for at least the next year, Gunn has teased two other DC TV projects coming but has not yet given any hint as to whether these will both be further The Suicide Squad spin-offs or come from some other area of the DC. Either Way, there is no doubt that Gunn is having more fun now than ever, and if he is having fun working on these projects then it seems to follow that fans have a great time watching them.
