Peacemaker’s finale brought an unexpected appearance from the Justice League to tie it completely to the DCEU, and although not all of the members were in attendance, some NSFW banter between John Cena’s Peacemaker, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s The Flash was more than enough to lead fans to wonder if more cameos are on the cards for Peacemaker season 2. Now James Gunn has teased that there will likely be some more familiar DC faces turning up the next time we see Christopher Smith doing what he does best.

Throughout the Peacemaker series, the show referenced any number of DC heroes, with the outspoken title character having some very personal opinions about the likes of Batman and Aquaman. However, no amount of Easter eggs could compete with the finale’s arrival of the Justice League, and although Gunn cannot promise that the super-group of the DC world will be back in the second season of Peacemaker, he did say to expect more cameos when he spoke to Total Film (via GamesRadar+).

“I think we’re going to see more connections in some other stuff as we move forward with Peacemaker and other shows at HBO Max. So those [cameos] will keep coming,” Gunn says. “I don’t know if the Justice League is going to show up in every season of Peacemaker; that might be a one-time thing. We’ll see!”

James Gunn Is Set To Bring A Lot More Content To the DC World

There are many plans being worked on behind the scenes at Warner Bros. when it comes to their DC movies and TV shows. With The Batman having secured the future of the Dark Knight away from the DCEU, James Gunn’s DC future seems to be very much intertwined with the more collective side of Warner Bros. comic book output. So far, along with Peacemaker’s second season, writer/director has teased not one, but two other projects that he is currently developing with the studio.

When The Suicide Squad was released last year, Gunn actively promoted the possibility that would be making a number of spin-offs linked to the characters he introduced in the movie. Following Peacemaker’s success, it would not be a surprise to see both his upcoming projects being linked to those characters. Having shown an interest in revisiting the likes of Harley Quinn and Ratcatcher2 amongst others, Gunn certainly seems to have the ear of Warner Bros. and the ability to do pretty much whatever he wants with the characters.

This is really a world away from the kind of environment he has worked in for Marvel Studios. His latest and allegedly last Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia for a release next summer. He has also been working on the upcoming Guardians Holiday Special, which is expected to arrive on Disney+ this December as a prelude to the next movie, but beyond that it doesn’t seem like Gunn has any plans to be involved in Marvel’s future. However, as we have learned over the years; never say never.
