James Gunn’s relationship with the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy has never been in doubt. Whether it is defending them on social media or singing their praises for their work on the Marvel franchise and other ventures. Now it looks like he is ready to take some of them with him on his DC adventure, as he hinted that he would love to work with them again in his “other job.”
James Gunn has worked with Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and the rest of the Guardians team for almost a decade, so it is not surprising that he has grown close to many of them and wouldn’t hesitate to work with them outside the Marvel franchise he is preparing to leave behind after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Gunn commented:

While stars like Dave Bautista have made it clear that Guardians 3 will be his last time out in the MCU, Gunn will have plenty of opportunities in the future to get his wish of working with his former stars again. In the meantime, the road to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s release is well underway, with the movie expected to be one of the biggest releases of the summer.
“This cast are like my family,” he says. “I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Finally Brings Adam Warlock to the MCU.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
The MCU is well known for playing the long game when it comes to leaving a trail of breadcrumbs from a small cameo or post-credits mention to a full debut years later. This is true of Will Poulter’s debut as Adam Warlock.
The character of Adam Warlock has been on the radar for six years since being mentioned in the final post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Obviously, if not for James Gunn’s temporary dismissal by Disney and the COVID pandemic, that gap would have been considerably shorter. Still, even a three to four-year gap is pretty substantial in any franchise other than the MCU. Now the wait is almost over, and Poulter’s debut is not the only highlight of the forthcoming movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a lot to unpack when it hits cinemas on May 5. This includes dealing with the return of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) following the events of Infinity War and Endgame, the revelations made about Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff), the history of Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and the addition of both Adam Warlock and The High Evolutionary to the mix. As far as it goes, there doesn’t seem to be any chance of the film having a lot of filler, and fans are expecting end-to-end action from the barnstorming finale to the story of the current Guardians of the Galaxy line-up.
