Jamie Foxx, who’s especially skilled as a celebrity impersonator given his success as a biopic actor, is generating a lot of attention with his latest impression. Recently, Foxx appeared on the Rap Radar podcast (via Deadline), primarily in promotion for his new Netflix movie Day Shift. During the conversation, Foxx went fully into character as former U.S. president Donald J. Trump, and footage of the impression has gone viral on Twitter. You can watch the clip below, joining more than 1.6 million people who’ve already seen the video.
With his impression, Foxx refers to when Trump commuted the prison sentence of Death Row Records co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris, who had been serving time since the 1980s on charges of attempted murder and cocaine trafficking. Foxx also mentions Snoop Dogg, who had been pushing for Harris’ release. In character as Trump, Foxx said:
Foxx then portrays Trump as someone pretending to be a fan of Death Row Records. Here’s what he said when asked to name his favorite record from the label.
“There’s a lot of great people on both sides. Lots of great people on both sides. I know Harry O. He’s a great person. He couldn’t vote for me at the time. Now he can vote for me once he gets out. I love Snoop D-O-Double G. Great person.”
Foxx then comments on remarks Trump had made about how he had “beat the virus,” falling out of character to have a laugh at the expense of the former president.
Jamie Foxx Will Play Mike Tyson in Next Biopic
It’s not much of a surprise to see Jamie Foxx doing so well with his impression of Donald Trump. The professional actor does have specific experience with impersonating celebrities as someone who won an Oscar for his portrayal of music legend Ray Charles in the hit biopic Ray. In more recent years, Foxx has been planning to star in another biopic that will see him taking on boxing legend Mike Tyson. This project has the personal endorsement of Tyson, who condemned the recently-released limited series Mike on Hulu.
The Tyson biopic, which was planned as a feature film but is now getting developed as a limited series, is written by Colin Preston. Training Day helmer Antoine Fuqua is also reportedly attached to direct. Martin Scorsese is also on board as an executive producer.
“I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time,” Mike Tyson said in a statement about the series. “With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment. I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie, and the entire creative team to bring audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey but also inspires and entertains.”
