There’s no shortage of supervillains for Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker to fight in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but which one will give him the biggest challenge? Perhaps that might be Green Goblin, played by a returning Willem Dafoe in the movie, slipping through the multiverse for a rematch with Peter Parker… even if it’s not his Peter Parker. At least, this is what Jamie Foxx suggests.
Foxx previously played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield, and he’s also returning in No Way Home alongside Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin. Other major bad guys from years past are also coming in, from Sandman to the Lizard, and chances are there’s going to be more than what we’ve seen in the trailers. Speaking at the CCXP panel for Spider-Man: No Way Home (via The Direct), Foxx teased that Green Goblin will have the most “weight” coming in as his problems with Peter Parker are more “personal.”

We will also see Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 in the movie, and he’s been the one featured in the most footage and promotional materials. He was also the first to reveal his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which may have had Kevin Feige keeping a closer eye on him in the months afterward. Digital de-aging techniques were used to make Molina look as he did when he was in Spider-Man 2 nearly two decades ago, and it all looks pretty great from what we’ve seen in the trailers.
“When we were shooting it, we were all under orders not to talk about it, because it was supposed to be some great big secret,” Molina previously told Variety. “But, you know, it’s all over the internet. I actually described myself as the worst kept secret in Hollywood!”
He added, “It was wonderful. It was very interesting going back after 17 years to play the same role, given that in the intervening years, I now have two chins, a wattle, crow’s feet and a slightly dodgy lower back.”
It’s going to be interesting to see how Doc Ock fits into the new story. Trailer footage has shown him getting interrogated by Doctor Strange and Peter Parker, revealing that Tom Holland’s Peter is not the one he’s familiar with. There’s speculation that Doc Ock may even start working with this Spider-Man, though a big fight scene teases the formation of several members of the Sinister Six coming together. Will Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield show up during this scene?
Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in theaters on Dec. 17, 2021.
