Both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are currently “talking” with Disney about making a sequel to their 2003 comedy, Freaky Friday, happen. While attending the premiere for the whodunnit sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Curtis revealed to Variety that the studio and the stars are interested in seeing Freaky Friday 2 make its way to screens.

Directed by Mark Waters and written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon, and based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel of the same name, 2003’s Freaky Friday finds Jamie Lee Curtis as single mother Tess Coleman, with Lindsay Lohan starring as her teenage daughter Anna. Despite being mother and daughter, the pair could not be more different, and it is driving them both insane. After receiving cryptic fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, the two wake up the next day to discover that they have somehow switched bodies. Unable to switch back, they are forced to masquerade as one another until a solution can be found. In the process, they develop a new sense of respect and understanding for one another.

“We’re talking. People are talking. The right people are talking . . . We (she and Lohan) are both committed to it. It’s not ours to make – it’s Disney’s to make, and I think they’re interested. And we are talking.”

Freaky Friday was met with positive reviews from critics thanks to the chemistry between the two leads as they embark on a classic body-swap adventure. Thanks to the emergence of legacy sequels, some of which have continued the likes of Disney’s Hocus Pocus and Mary Poppins, talk has turned to which Disney favorites might receive the same treatment.

Jamie Lee Curtis Has Already Pitched Freaky Friday 2 to Disney

Well, it’s looking more and more like Freaky Friday could be next, with Jamie Lee Curtis having already pitched a sequel idea to Disney. “I’ve already written to Disney, my friends at Disney,” the actress revealed. “I’m in their new ‘Haunted Mansion’ movie. Let me be the grandma! Let me be the old grandma who switches places. So then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon…And simply, I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I wanna be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”

Not only has Curtis already gotten the ball rolling on Freaky Friday 2, Lindsay Lohan has also declared her desire to return for more body-swapping shenanigans. “We did speak about it, yeah,” she said a few days ago. “Let’s just take the fact that I was on set filming at the time, and Jamie Lee Curtis writes, and you just get excited and distracted immediately. So, I had to bring myself down to Earth and be like, ‘I’m on set, I have to focus.’ Then she said, ‘Freaky Friday 2,’ and I got more excited… We’d both be into it.”

Jamie Lee Curtis is currently bringing the saga of Laurie Strode to an end in Halloween Ends, and Lindsay Lohan is leading Netflix’s Christmas romcom Falling for Christmas.
