We’ve received an update for Jamie Lee Curtis’ upcoming joint comic-book/movie venture Mother Nature. Over Instagram, the Halloween actress announced that the comic, which was adapted from a script by Curtis and Russell Goldman and drawn by Karl Stevens, will be published in 2023 by Titan Comics.

Earlier this year, Curtis said this in a statement with Entertainment Weekly:

Mother Nature will follow Nova Terrell, whose hometown of Catch Creek, New Mexico, relies on the Cobalt Corporation for its jobs and livelihood. Except Nova hates the corporation after her father died under mysterious circumstances during one of their projects. Eventually, after a campaign of vandalism and sabotage, Nova discovers the truth behind Cobalt’s Mother Nature project, which has released an entity that could destroy them all.

“I first thought about this story when I was 19 years old. I’ve always been aware of the very unbalanced relationship between humans and nature, and even though I was young, I always knew that, inevitably, nature would win. I have long admired and collected Karl’s work, and I’m very excited he suggested expanding the idea to turn it into a graphic novel. The partnership with Titan has now given us a wonderful platform to begin to tell our story.”

More on What The Project Will Be About

     Universal Pictures

The upcoming film of the same name will serve as Curtis’ directorial debut. It will be part of a new collaboration between Blumhouse, who has recently finished a Halloween trilogy with the actress, and Curtis’ own Comet Pictures. Goldman, Mother Nature’s co-writer, also serves as the Head of Development for film and television at Comet.

“I was immediately blown away by the depth of the characters, the perfect blend of action and gore, the urgent ecological message, and how all these things would translate beautifully into a graphic novel. It’s a joy and privilege to work with Titan Comics and Blumhouse on this project. I’m producing the best work of my career!” Stevens said.

“We wanted to reach deeper than the big-picture doom-and-gloom of climate change narratives to tell a story specific to Four Corners, N.M., an amazing part of the world where every major source of energy is mined, and where the climate and resource crises are acutely felt. We wanted to use these themes to shape a story that feels intense, honest and unexpectedly aspirational.” Goldman said.
