Actress and activist Jane Fonda is celebrating some incredible news days ahead of her birthday and the Christmas holiday. Back in September, Fonda announced that she’d been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and would be starting chemotherapy treatments. In a new blog post on her official website, the Grace & Frankie and Barbarella star has now revealed that her cancer is in remission with Fonda set to cease her chemotherapy.
“Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo. I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate,” Fonda says in the blog. “I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news. I’m especially happy because while my first 4 chemo treatments were rather easy for me, only a few days of being tired, the last chemo session was rough and lasted 2 weeks making it hard to accomplish much of anything.”

The blog post, titled Best Birthday Present Ever!!!, adds: “Thanks for sending good wishes my way. I wish everyone a joyful, healthy Holiday.”
Fonda also speaks about how she didn’t let her cancer battle affect her activism. She speaks about attending the first-ever Fire Drill Fridays rally in Washington D.C. as well as appearing at the Democracy Alliance with other climate activists to protest Senator Joe Manchin’s “Dirty Deal.” Fonda encouraged the readers of her blog post to “call or write your senator(s) demanding they oppose this Dirty Deal,” which she describes as a “slap in the face to the record number of young voters and self-identified climate voters who came out in record numbers for the midterms.”

In her original announcement of her diagnosis, Fonda noted that she was “very lucky” to have a treatable cancer with an 80% survival rate. No matter how her chemotherapy left her feeling, she also vowed to continue on with her activism no matter what.
“I’m doing chemo for 6 months and am handling the treatments quite well and, believe me, I will not let any of this interfere with my climate activism,” Fonda said.

Though Grace & Frankie ended its run on Netflix this year, Fonda is also keeping busy in the film and TV world. She recently participated in the documentary Still Working 9 to 5, which details how little has changed regarding equality in the workplace since 9 to 5 was released. It was also recently announced that she’ll appear in the Roadside Attractions film Moving On alongside longtime friend and collaborator Lily Tomlin. The movie will release on March 17, 2023.
