It looks like Jason Momoa will be going face to face with Vin Diesel in Fast and Furious 10. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Momoa is in final negotiations to lock down a role as one of the villains in the tenth installments of the popular movie series. Universal declined to comment on the situation, though the casting of a big star like Momoa makes sense with the Fast and Furious team wanting to take the franchise out with a bang.
Previously, it was announced that the Fast and Furious franchise will conclude with the eleventh installment. Justin Lin, who directed F9, is back in the director’s chair to help close out the series. Along with Vin Diesel, the final films will bring back as many primary cast members as possible, including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Sung Kang, and Charlize Theron. Diesel and Lin are producing the film.

There’s a good chance we’ll be seeing John Cena in Fast and Furious 10 as well. The WWE superstar recently appeared on Good Morning America, and he addressed his status in the franchise after debuting in F9 as the brother of Diesel’s character. Cena isn’t signed on at this point, but he made it clear that he’s up for returning if he’s invited back, and it seems unlikely that he wouldn’t be.
“I can tell you this: you probably won’t see me in Fast 10 dressed like [Peacemaker], but I really hope you see me in Fast 10,” Cena said. “I know they’re gearing up for production and I would love nothing more than to return to the franchise. I’m a big fan myself.”
Will Jason Momoa’s Casting Make Up for Dwayne Johnson’s Absence?
Universal Pictures
While we will probably see at least one WWE legend in the film with Cena’s likely return, we shouldn’t count on seeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. After starring in several of the previous Fast and Furious films, along with the spinoff movie Hobbs & Shaw with Jason Statham, Johnson made it clear that he wouldn’t be returning for the final Fast films. His problems behind the scenes with Vin Diesel were well documented, though Diesel has publicly invited The Rock to return with a post on Instagram.

The Rock was not impressed. He later doubled down by stating that he “told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return.”

“Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation,” Johnson added. “I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”
The wait for the next movie will also be a little longer than expected after a recent delay. Fast and Furious 10 is now set to be released in theaters on May 19, 2023, following a push back from its previous date of April 7, 2023.
