Actor Jason Momoa has teased a possible return to the Dune franchise. However, it won’t be in Dune: Part Two. Speaking with GQ, Momoa discussed his character’s fate in the first Dune, and how, thanks to the novel’s sequels and the science fiction gizmos within them, we may not have seen the last of the superbly named Duncan Idaho. However, it would require an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s book Dune: Messiah.
SPOILERS for Dune: Part One to followMomoa does not make it out of the movie alive. No, he makes the heroic sacrifice in order to allow his mentee Paul Atreides to escape the clutches of Baron Harkonnen and thus claim his messianic destiny. While Duncan may be dead, the events of Dune: Messiah sees the character return as a ghola, or clone, and going by the name Hayt.
“Have you read the books? Well, I mean the books are proof… so I’m not the one spoiling it here. So, you should continue reading. I love that world and I’m very happy to be a part of it.”

Of course, there is only one man who can successfully play a clone of the Jason Momoa character and would thus allow the actor to return to the franchise — a prospect that Momoa sounds incredibly excited by.
Good News for Jason Momoa, Director Denis Villeneuve is Hoping to Adapt Dune: Messiah
Warner Bros.
While nothing has been confirmed, Dune writer Jon Spaihts has revealed that the franchise could run for as may as six movies, should they be allowed to follow the source novels. “Yes. Frank Herbert wrote six novels, I believe, with a seventh partially completed upon his death that was completed [posthumously] by his son,” Spaihts said.
He even went on to reveal that Dune and Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve already has his eye on a third movie, at the very least, with the filmmaker hoping to adapt Dune: Messiah and end his desired trilogy.
Should Dune: Part Two continue the success of the first movie, and Villeneuve gets his way, audiences could see Jason Momoa return to the franchise somewhere down the line.
For now, we still have Dune: Part Two to experience. Starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux, Dune: Part Two is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2023.
