If you mention the name Jason Momoa to pretty much anyone, the first image that comes to mind involves a lot of hair, but that is about to change as the Aquaman star has taken the drastic step of shaving his flowing mane to raise awareness for eliminating single-use plastics from everyday life. As one of his signature attributes, the actor’s commitment to the cause is clear to see in a video shared by Momoa that shows him mid-cut, holding his former braids and lifting them up to the camera for everyone to see.
Momoa has been ever vocal about his support for the banning of single-use plastics, with water bottles being one of his biggest bugbears. Braving the shave is the Fast X actor’s latest way of getting his message out to everyone, and it is certainly a show stopping moment to see the actor showing off his scalp and commenting on how he has “never felt the wind” on certain parts of his head before. In the video, Momoa says:

Momoa of course has his own bottled water company, Mananula Water Official, and he posted a link in his post on Instagram. The company sells water in aluminium bottles and aims to dramatically reduce the number of plastic water bottles ending up in oceans and littering streets, parks and other areas.
“Aloha, everyone. Hand me those braids. So I’m shaving off the hair. I’m doing it for single use plastics. I’m tired of these plastic bottles. We gotta stop. plastic forks, all that sh-t. It just goes into our land. It goes into our ocean. I’m here in Hawaii right now and just seeing things in our ocean, it’s just so sad. So please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastics in your life, help me. Plastic bottles are ridiculous."

While there will be plenty of Momoa fans out there who will be mourning the loss of the actor’s lustrous locks, his passion for his cause is there for everyone to see and it will probably not be too long before his mane has grown back. In the meantime, Momoa and his flowing hair can currently be found on Apple TV+ in the final season of See, and he will be back in the ocean as Arthur Curry/Aquaman later next year in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Later this year Momoa also comes to Netflix in Slumberland, and has a role alongside Charlize Theron as one of the main villains of the final Fast and Furious movies.
As one of the biggest stars on the planet, Jason Momoa appearing on social media having a serious hair cut is something that certainly attracts the attention and that is exactly why the actor has taken the plunge. Exactly how many people will think twice before picking up and subsequently dumping a plastic bottle after watching the video is one of those things that we will never know, but Momoa can rest well knowing that he has created a scroll-stopper moment that at least gives him a chance to get his message across.
