Aquaman star Jason Momoa will continue to demonstrate his affinity as an action hero, signing on the dotted line to star in an action-comedy for Universal. Titled Shots, Shots, Shots, the plot of the movie is currently a mystery, but it has been likened to James Cameron’s superb spy outing True Lies and the recent Paramount hit comedy The Lost City, with a dash of Liam Neeson’s Taken franchise thrown in for good measure.
The news comes courtesy of a report by The Hollywood Reporter, with Universal further describing the project as “a family-centric adventure.” Could Shots, Shots, Shots be Momoa’s seemingly obligatory family-action movie, and thus see him follow in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger with Kindergarten Cop, Vin Diesel with The Pacifier, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with Tooth Fairy?

Alongside Jason Momoa in the central role, the studio has also tapped Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows to write the script for Shots, Shots, Shots. The writing pair does not yet have many credits to their name, but they have dabbled in comedy before with the 2018 Netflix comedy The Package. As well as Shots, Shots, Shots, Mider and Burrows are currently developing the comedy Stoned Alone, a reimagining of Home Alone about a 20-something stoner, which is eyeing Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds for the lead.
Jason Momoa will produce Shots, Shots, Shots as well as star, with the Dune actor producing the family-action flick with partner Jeff Fierson along with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback. A director has yet to be announced.
Jason Momoa Will be on Action Hero Duty for the Foreseeable Future
DC Entertainment
Shots, Shots, Shots is far from the only time that Jason Momoa will ply his trade as an action hero on the big screen. The actor will next reprise the role of underwater DC superhero Aquaman in the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and starring Jason Momoa alongside Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman, plot details for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom remain a mystery at present but, to the surprise of no one, it is expected to follow the Justice League member as he discovers a lost kingdom.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be released on March 17, 2023.
Momoa is also joining the Fast and Furious family alongside Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, and the others in the upcoming Fast X. Once again, the plot remains a closely guarded secret, but it has been revealed that Momoa will enter the Fast and Furious fray as the villain of the piece. “It’s fun, I get to play the bad guy, which I haven’t gotten to do for a while,” Momoa has said since. “Now, I get to be the bad boy. A very flamboyant bad boy. A little panache!”
Fast X meanhwhile is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 19, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
