We will finally see Jason Voorhees make his long-awaited return with the arrival of Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th prequel series that’s in the works at Peacock. From Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, the show will serve as the first official installment of the Friday the 13th series since the reboot movie hit theaters in 2009. Needless to say, there are many horror fans excited, and this has resulted in Creepy Duck Design, an artist specializing in movie poster artwork for Hollywood, crafting up a concept poster for Crystal Lake. It’s been posted to Twitter and you can take a peek at it below.
The poster highlights a young boy, presumably Jason Voorhees, looking upon the titular lake where he’ll end up spending plenty of time later on in the franchise. The adult Jason, complete with machete and hockey mask, is reflected in the water, teasing the carnage that’s to come. Fuller has confirmed that he’ll have access to use anything he wants from Friday the 13th’s lore for the series, suggesting we could end up seeing the familiar hockey mask despite the series being set up as an origin story.

“We can use everything.,” he told Fangoria, suggesting that even Jason X is on the table. “We can go to Hell, we can go to space. That’s not to say that we will do those things … although if we do go 10 seasons, I will be lobbying hard to go to space.”

There isn’t much else that has been revealed about Crystal Lake, though Fuller has described the show as a “pre-remake-uel series.” That suggests that it won’t necessarily be set in the same universe as the original film, opening the door for some major changes to be made. But one thing that will carry over is Jason’s brutality, as Fuller has promised that the mute maniac will be no less violent than what fans will be expecting from him.
“It will be pretty murderous! I think we’ll be dropping bodies every episode, and I think there’s something about the build of that, as we are hopefully in for the long haul,” Fuller said.
Crystal Lake doesn’t have a premiere date at this time, nor have any cast members yet been attached.
