Top Gun: Maverick was an enormous success for Paramount Pictures. The long-awaited sequel reached an astounding $1.48 billion at the box office, with positive reviews from both audiences and critics. The film saw the return of Tom Cruise to his beloved Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell role, reprising the part he played in the original Top Gun in 1986.
Top Gun: Maverick introduced a whole crew of characters alongside Cruise’s established Maverick, including Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, and Glen Powell. Ellis recently spoke with People at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, where he said the cast of Maverick would love to return for an eventual sequel.

Ellis played Lt. Reuben ‘Payback’ Fitch in the movie, and he believes there’s more to uncover with his character and the rest of the team, although he isn’t sure a follow-up to Maverick will ever come to fruition.
Miles Teller Has Hinted at the Possibility of Top Gun 3
Paramount Pictures
Miles Teller played a prominent role in Top Gun: Maverick as Lt. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late best friend, Goose. Throughout the film, the two characters bond despite Roosters’ feelings toward Maverick, leading to the possibility of a sequel centered around Teller’s character. The actor spoke with Entertainment Tonight in the past, saying the chance for Top Gun 3 is all up to Tom Cruise.
Of course, a Top Gun without Tom Cruise wouldn’t feel right, although the next installment could act as a proper send-off for the character with the young guns taking over as the stars. Val Kilmer appeared in Top Gun: Maverick, reprising his role as Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, though his part was limited due to the actor receiving a throat cancer diagnosis in 2014, resulting in vocal cord damage. Despite the smaller part, Kilmer played a vital role in the film.
“That would be great, but that’s all up to TC. It’s all up to Tom. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it. We’ll see.”
There are many directions a possible Top Gun 3 could go, but for now, the cast and crew will celebrate the tremendous accomplishment of Top Gun: Maverick.
