Jay Leno, 72, recently canceled an appearance at a financial convention due to a “serious medical emergency,” according to People.

The former host of the late-night talk show, The Tonight Show, was scheduled to perform at the Financial Brand Forum 2022 in Las Vegas on Sunday, November 13, 2022, but couldn’t attend due to a health problem, according to an email sent to Forum 2022 conference attendees.

“His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling,” the email notice stated. “All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight.”

At first, when the cause of the hospitalization was unknown, it was reported that Leno was likely hospitalized due to his high cholesterol, as the comedian has been open about his struggles with blockages in the past. However, Page Six is now reporting that Leno “is in the hospital after a freak car fire reportedly left him with ‘serious’ facial burns.”

According to reports, Leno was in his Los Angeles garage where he keeps dozens of prized cars, including a DeLorean, when one of the cars malfunctioned and burst into flames (although it’s unclear which one). The explosion severely burned the left side of the former talk show host’s face but didn’t injure his eyes or ears. Per Page Six, he is currently at the Grossman Burn Center, but his condition is unknown.

Jay Leno Never Intended to Sabotage The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien

     NBC

In August 2022, Leno reflected on when he briefly left NBC’s The Tonight Show and was replaced by Conan O’Brien in 2009. The late-night talk show host wound up staying with the network with a new show, The Jay Leno Show, which aired at 10 p.m. as a lead-up to a new The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien at 11 p.m.

Unfortunately, instead, the two late-night shows were in competition with each other, and both failed to meet the rating expectations that NBC had hoped for. After the network tried to push O’Brien to a later time slot, he ultimately parted ways with the network and launched the talk show elsewhere. Leno was reinstated as The Tonight Show host until 2014 when he had to step down from hosting the program.
