The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has managed to fulfill his dream of casting Jeffrey Dean Morgan in The Boys. For years, Kripke, who also created Supernatural and worked with Morgan on that show alongside Soldier Boy actor Jensen Ackles, has been open about his wish of bringing in Morgan. On Thursday, the show’s official Twitter page revealed that Morgan has been officially cast by posting a meme of the actor noting that he’s “ready” to put on some tights.

“Chuffed to welcome [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] to The Boys S4. Can’t confirm if he’s gettin’ any tights, though,” the tweet reads.

This has been a long time coming for Kripke, who must be stoked to have pulled off this casting. While it’s not yet clear who Morgan will be playing on the series, it’s safe to presume that it will be a superhero or supervillain, given the hints about getting into tights. In any case, Kripke had been speaking about his desire to cast Morgan earlier this summer.

“Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a superfan of the show, so he and I are talking,” Kripke said in June, via E! News. “We’re trying to figure out something for season four. Nothing finalized yet, but he and I are chatting and e-mailing and seeing it we can make it work with his busy schedule. So, stay tuned on that.”

With Morgan now in the fray, the only man of the Winchester family from Supernatural that’s left to come in is Jared Padalecki. Kripke has also said he hopes to have Padalecki make an appearance in the series at some point as well. It would just depend upon Padalecki’s availability as the actor is currently pretty busy with his CW series Walker along with its prequel spinoff series that he’s also executive producing.

“I would put Jared on the show in a heartbeat,” Kripke said. “I mean, he’s really busy with his empire over there in Austin, but if it was willing to play, I would put him on the show in a second.”

Production on the fourth season of The Boys is now underway. Kripke recently revealed that the episode title for the season 4 premiere, written by David Reed and directed by Phil Sgriccia, is called “Department of Dirty Tricks.” It remains to be seen how Kripke and Co. plan to top the insanity that we have seen in the third season, especially given the events of the infamous “Herogasm” scene, but chances are they’ll think of something else that will blow fans’ minds.

Season 4 of The Boys does not yet have a premiere date but will likely arrive in 2023. The first three seasons are streaming on Prime Video, as is the animated spinoff series The Boys Presents: Diabolical.
