Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character in The Walking Dead has had quite a ride, but now, like the rest of the cast, the actor has been sharing a behind-the-scenes image of himself on set for the last time as the iconic horror series ends after 11 seasons. Although The Walking Dead debuted in 2010, Morgan didn’t join the show until the end of season 6 as villain Negan, in an episode that still stands for many as the best episode of the entire show, but as one of the most popular characters in the series, it is only fitting that he has been there at the end.
While there have been lulls in the show’s viewership from time to time, there is a solid consensus that there has not been an episode that could not be saved by an appearance from Negan, with a series of one-liner put-downs and a swing of baseball bat Lucille. The popularity of Negan is evident in the fact that he will be back again in spin-off series Isle of the Dead, which will see Morgan’s reformed character teaming up with his most unlikely traveling companion Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan.

While Cohen and co-star Norman Reedus have already shared their fond farewell earlier this week after completing their final scenes, Morgan has only now joined the party. However, it seems for all of them, it is an ending that is emotional and hard to quite come to terms with. Posting on Instagram, Morgan said, “My last day. Thanks to everyone. No words beyond that… it’s just going ot take a bit to process it all. What a ride it’s been. Huge love to cast and crew…and as far as all you that watch [The WalkingDead]? Thank you probably doesn’t cover it, but its all I got. XXX jd&negan”
Isle of the Dead is Just One of the Spin-Offs That Will Continue The Walking Dead Franchise
AMC
Last month, the Negan/Maggie spin-off was announced as the latest show to pick up the mantle from the flagship show. In Isle of the Dead, “Maggie and Negan are traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.”
For many fans, Isle of the Dead is probably one of the most exciting projects coming in the next year from the world of The Walking Dead, but it is one of many new series in the works. Tales of The Walking Dead is set to arrive this summer, featuring self-contained stories that will see some familiar faces returning, and of course, the final part of The Walking Dead’s last season is also coming later this year. In addition, there is the Carol and Daryl series, the constant promise of the Rick Grimes movies, and the continuation of Fear The Walking Dead. Creator Robert Kirkman may have ended the comics a few years ago, but he did promise that there was still a lot to come from the expanding universe, and he wasn’t lying.
