As reported by People, actress and singer Jennifer Hudson announced on Wednesday morning that her talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, has been renewed for a second season. The Dreamgirls star revealed the good news during a segment of the show with a song. “But we made it,” she belted out before declaring, “The Jennifer Hudson Show has been renewed for season 2. Don’t you want to run and shout?” she questioned the audience, who in response gave the star a standing ovation.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-managed daytime talk show was created and produced by Hudson and JHud Productions and aired its series premiere on September 12th, 2022. Guests for the first week of The Jennifer Hudson Show included famous faces like Viola Davis and Simon Cowell. According to Fox, the show became the number one first-run series during its first week on air and averaged a total of 5.2 million weekly viewers during its first season.

Before the show’s announcement, Hudson spoke to the audience about her hopes for 2023 and noted that her son had told her that this year would have “new beginnings.” The singer then proclaimed 2023 to be the year of “victories.” She later stated, “I think this happens to all of us as adults. We’re so busy doing stuff that we never stop to think about ‘This is what I prayed for, this is what I wanted, it’s happening.’ And embrace it. Well, this is one of those moments.”

Hudson also applauded her fans, and the crew and staff of The Jennifer Hudson Show, who she said worked “like nobody’s business” to run the series. “I’m still processing the fact that Jennifer got a show!” she declared.
The star finished by thanking her family and noting that her son, David, had been “such a trooper” throughout the experience. Hudson said, “I want to say thank you to my son who has always been so supportive of his mom and just being such an inspiration of a child and just being there in support … it’s a huge transition that we’re going for, and I’m proud of him for taking this journey with me, so I love my baby,” the former American Idol star said also noting that her son would now “most likely” attend school in Los Angeles in light of the renewal of his mom’s talk show.
Additionally, in a statement shared with People, Hudson expanded on her joy following her talk show’s renewal.
“Working on this show alongside my incredible team and our amazing partners has been one of the greatest joys of my career,” said Hudson.
The statement continued, “We have been on this journey together from day one and I am so thrilled to take it to the next level,” she continued. “I could not be more grateful to audiences across America for letting me into their homes every day as we empower and inspire one another. I can’t wait to show you what we have up our sleeves in season two!”
