Elizabeth Holmes has become a well-known name, thanks in part to Amanda Seyfried’s Emmy Award-winning portrayal on Hulu’s The Dropout. A different award-winning actress was slated to portray the disgraced biotech entrepreneur in the upcoming film Bad Blood: Jennifer Lawrence. However, the actress is now telling The New York Times that she has exited the Apple Originals Film, citing Seyfried’s incredible performance as the reason. Lawrence told Reporter Kyle Buchanan:

Bad Blood is based on the 2018 book of the same name written by journalist John Carreyrou, which explores the rapid success and failure of Theranos, the multi-billion-dollar health technology startup created by Elizabeth Holmes (who has since been convicted of criminal fraud). The film, if it indeed moves forward without Lawrence, will be directed by Adam McKay.

“I thought she was terrific. I was like, ‘Yeah, we don’t need to redo that.’ She did it.”

McKay and Lawrence collaborated on Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, the actress’ first film following a two-year hiatus after 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The actress spoke about her break from film following her portrayal of Raven/Mystique in the Marvel film. Lawrence explained to the publication that she started to feel more like a celebrity and less like an actor due to some of the roles she was taking on and felt disconnected from her “creativity” and “imagination.”

Noting a particular remorse, the actress mentioned Passengers, the 2016 sci-fi romance she starred in alongside Chris Pratt. The film earned less than favorable reviews, and when Lawrence learned that audiences were not happy with the film, she thought:

Lawrence will next appear in the psychological drama Causeway, debuting on Apple TV+ this Friday. She stars as Lynsey, an American soldier who is forced to return home after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a car explosion during an Afghanistan tour. The film, which has been positively received by critics, then follows Lynsey’s story as she struggles to adapt to her new normal.

“I was like ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?’ Adele told me not to do it! She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her.”

Next year, Lawrence will appear in No Hard Feelings, a comedy that also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Natalie Morales, and Matthew Broderick. The film is currently in production and scheduled for release in June 2023.
