Singing, dancing, acting, Jennifer Lopez can do it all. The pop culture icon has been behind amazing hits such as “On The Floor,” “Ain’t Your Mama,” and “Jenny from the Block.” But while J.Lo has arguably been better known for her music career, she has described acting as the true love of her life (via US Magazine). In fact, it was Lopez’ leading role in Selena that skyrocketed her to stardom and preceded her first album.

Although Lopez has explored a variety of different film genres, she has always had a home in the genre of comedy. From action comedies like Money Train to romantic comedies like Marry Me, Lopez has proved to be an incredibly endearing presence on-screen. It has come at no surprise that she has continued to land comedic roles, including the lead role in Prim Video’s Shotgun Wedding. Without further ado, here are Jennifer Lopez’ best comedy movies, ranked.

7 Monster-in-Law

     New Line Cinema

In 2005, Lopez led the cast of Monster-in-Law as Charlie Cantilini. She came into conflict with Viola Fields (Jane Fonda), who feared losing her son and sought to cancel her son and Charlie’s wedding. It was an interesting dynamic for a rom-com, allowing for absolute mayhem. Monster-in-Law was not without its flaws, but its over-the-top nature proved to be well-suited for a comedy. Audiences could laugh and relish in the fact that they didn’t have to go through what Charlie had to go through.

6 The Wedding Planner

     Sony Pictures

Starring Lopez and Matthew McConaughey, The Wedding Planner was definitely not the best-received romantic comedy ever made. It has, however, continued to be loved by fans who have enjoyed watching the film since 2001. Lopez played Mary Fiore, the titular wedding planner, with all kinds of mischief rising from planning the wedding of the man she felt affection for. Those who were able to look past the predictable plot found a comfort movie that didn’t take itself too seriously.

5 Shall We Dance?

     Miramax

Shall We Dance? focused on John Clark, a successful lawyer who seemingly had it all. He eventually realized that there was something missing in his life, discovering a love for dancing through the beautiful Paulina (Lopez). With the word “dance” being prominently featured in the title, it was fortunate that the film excelled in the dance department. Besides the music and dancing, it was really the comedy that helped power the film.

4 Home

     DreamWorks Animation

DreamWorks cast Lopez in the voice role of Lucy Tucci for their 2015 animated adventure Home. Lucy was the mother of Tip (voiced by Rihanna), a teenage girl that befriended purple alien and social outcast, Oh. Home succeeded as an animated comedy by embracing its playful elements, while also being sweet and heartwarming. The film told a simple story of friendship that emotionally hit home for viewers of all ages.

3 Marry Me

     Universal Pictures

Released in early-2022, Marry Me was a straight-forward rom-com released during a time when Hollywood hardly ever makes new rom-coms. The film followed a pop star named Kat Valdez (Lopez), who was slated to marry her fiancé on-stage. After discovering that her fiancé had been having an affair, Kat instead chose to marry someone from the crowd, math teacher Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson).

While Marry Me certainly had the silliness and cheese that may turn some viewers off, it was also sweet, lighthearted, and funny. Those looking for a super original comedy weren’t able to find it in Marry Me, but the film accomplished virtually everything it set out to achieve. On top of that, Marry Me also featured a decent soundtrack.

2 Hustlers

     STX Entertainment

Lopez didn’t just star in Hustlers, she also co-produced the film through her company Nuyorican Productions. Centered on a crew of New York City exotic dancers taking money from the Wall Street elite, Hustlers was both effective heist drama and comedy. The cast was excellent, assembling the likes of Lopez, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, and even artists Lizzo and Cardi B. Hustlers received recognition for its thoughtful script and strong performances, but it also brought a much-needed women’s perspective with Lorene Scafaria in the director’s chair.

1 Out of Sight

Out of Sight stood as a major highlight in Lopez’ film career. The film boasted an impressive cast, featuring Lopez alongside George Clooney, Ving Rhames, and Don Cheadle. An R-rated crime drama from the late-90s, Out of Sight masterfully blended comedy with action and romance. Lopez was perfect in the role of U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco and had great chemistry with Clooney on-screen. Sharp, witty dialogue, an engaging plot, and plenty of stylish charm made Out of Sight very enjoyable to watch.
