SPOILER WARNING: Major spoilers for the first seven episodes of The Boys Season 3 ahead:

Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) has been a welcome presence in season 3 of Prime Video’s The Boys. His character, although terrifyingly dangerous, has been a part of some great moments throughout the season as he attempts to get revenge on his former superhero team, Payback.

In the latest penultimate episode, titled Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed, a major plot twist was revealed that would significantly change how the finale unfolds. As Soldier Boy begins to beat Mindstorm’s face in, he tells him something we aren’t able to hear at the time. However, the shocking twist is revealed at the end of the episode. Soldier Boy calls Homelander, the man he just had an epic battle with in the previous episode, to let him know he is actually his biological father.

He tells Homelander that in the 1980s, he made a donation to Vought scientist Jonah Vogelbaum for what he assumed was a genetics project. However, one year later, Homelander was born. Since Vogelbaum is the scientist who created Homelander, Soldier Boy was able to connect the dots, leading to the realization that the most powerful Supe on the planet is actually Soldier Boys’ son.

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Jensen Ackles shared his thoughts on the major twist.

Audiences were also shocked as there was no allusion or hints toward the blood connection at any point in the show; however, after the revelation, it fits entirely into the plot of the series. Fans of The Boys can watch how this season wraps up in two days, with the season 3 finale releasing this Friday.

“As a fan of the show, I didn’t see that coming. I just kind of assumed that the only connection was the fact that they were contextualized in the same way, that Soldier Boy was the original Homelander and got in the way and they replaced him with a shiner, newer version of the same thing. But in no way, shape or form did I think that there was an actual bloodline connection. So it kind of threw me for a loop.”

What Should We Expect From Season 3’s Final Episode?

The Boys has arguably been one of the best shows of the year through seven episodes. Although we received the massive reveal in the penultimate episode, there are still many conflicts left to resolve. Although we can try and predict what will happen next in the series, showrunner and head writer Eric Kripke has managed to consistently surprise audiences with each new episode.

In the promo trailer for season 3, episode 8, we get a recap of prior plot points, with hints as to what we might expect in the finale. First, audiences may see Stan Edgar return, who has been an outcast from Vought following Homelander’s outbursts. Maeve, who is currently held captive by Homelander so he can harvest her eggs, will likely see some sort of resolution or demise. Hughie and Butcher will have to come to terms with the use of Temp-V, which has slowly been killing the duo. Finally, Homelander and Soldier Boy will have to discuss their differences and perhaps team up against Butcher and The Boys, with Black Noir coming to help take down Soldier Boy.

This Friday should be a fun, gory, supe-filled episode that will likely end on a cliffhanger, setting up the eventual fourth season. So tune in to Prime Video on July 8th to find out what happens with The Boys, and check out the finale promo below.
