The Bear had an incredible first-season run. Jeremy Allen White’s win for Best Actor in Television, Musical, or Comedy, during tonight’s Golden Globes is the most recent addition to the series’ accumulating praise. White stars in the critically acclaimed series as James Beard Award-winning chef Carmen “Camy” Berzatto, who returns to his native Chicago to take over his late brother’s restaurant.

White had stiff competition for the award: Donald Glover (Atlanta), Bill Hader (Barry), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), all of whom he praised during his acceptance speech:

The Bear Returns Later This Year

The Bear was recently renewed for a second season, which will continue to tell the story of Camy and the kitchen crew that works at his family restaurant. Many have praised the series for its realistic portrayal of restaurant work, which is credited to culinary training and assistance and feedback from real chefs. Late in the first season, Camy’s world opened to new possibilities as he found out that he inherited money left behind by his late brother.

The Bear’s second season is set to premiere later this year. The series was created by Christopher Storer and stars White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Abby Elliott.

White is best known for his portrayal of Phillip “Lip” Gallagher on Showtime’s Shameless. He is next set to star in A24’s Iron Claw as professional wrestler Kerry Von Erich.
