Laughter is the best medicine, and Chris Evans is helping out his friend Jeremy Renner with that following the latter’s brutal accident that occurred at the start of the year. On New Year’s Day, Renner had been using a snowcat when a freak accident resulted in the actor getting crushed by the vehicle. Suffering from blunt chest trauma, 30 broken bones, and other injuries, Renner was rushed to the ICU in critical condition, though he’s since been sent back home, where he is continuing his recovery.

On Saturday, Renner shared an update to Twitter on how things are going, posting to Instagram an image of him doing physical therapy at home. He also included a message thanking everyone who’s been there to show love and support since the accident happened. Responding to the update, Renner’s Avengers co-star Chris Evans posted some kind words for his friend, joking that it should be the snowcat that people need to be concerned about.

“That’s one tough mf’er,” Evans says. “Has anyone even checked on the snowcat???”

In response, Renner said, “Love you brother…. I did check on the snow cat, she needs fuel.”

Even while in pain, Renner never lost his excitement for the second season of his Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown to arrive. Ahead of the show’s premiere, which came about two weeks after the accident, Renner had been reminding fans to check out the new episodes. He continued to promote the show after the premiere, finding happiness in enjoying the series with the fans despite the physical struggles he’s currently dealing with. Of course, he also wants everyone who’s been sending love to know just how much that’s also been keeping his spirits high.

“Spawned from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused into uniting actionable love. I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I,” Renner said in a thank you post to the fans. “Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens. Love and blessings to you all.”
