While Jeremy Renner is still getting better on his long road to recovery following a brutal snowplowing accident at the start of the month, he didn’t want to miss the season 2 premiere of Mayor of Kingstown. The actor was still so stoked for the new episodes to be released that he posted on Twitter that season 2 is about to arrive “like in an hour” on Paramount+. The announcement was a bit premature, as he was a day early, with season 2 officially premiering on Jan. 15, though fans were nevertheless happy for the reminder as it shows that Renner seems to be feeling better.

The first season of Mayor of Kingstown premiered on Paramount+ in 2021 and was renewed for season 2 early last year. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the new episodes ever since, as while critics’ reviews were mixed, Mayor of Kingstown struck well with viewers, garnering an 89% audience score at Rotten Tomatoes.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown stars Renner as Mike McLusky, a person who’s suddenly thrust into a position of power after spending many years as a right-hand man when his brother is killed. Per Paramount+, the show follows the “powerful McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.”

Renner’s accident occurred two weeks before the second season’s premiere. On New Year’s Day, Renner had been crushed by a snowplow, suffering blunt chest trauma and other significant injuries. He was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was in critical condition in the ICU. After undergoing emergency surgery, Renner has been slowly improving, but the road to recovery ahead of him could still be a long one, given the extent of his wounds.

“Thank you for all your kind words,” Renner said when posting a hospital bed selfie online a few days after the accident. “I’m too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”
