After debuting as Lex Luthor back in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jesse Eisenberg would go on to reprise the role for a brief cameo in the follow-up film Justice League. Because the state of the DCEU has shifted dramatically since these movies, there have been no subsequent appearances of Eisenberg’s Lex, nor are there any plans at this time for the actor to reprise the role in a future project. At this point, Eisenberg himself sees it as very unlikely he’ll ever revisit that role.
With that said, Eisenberg would be up for returning as Lex if someone at Warner Bros. were to give him the call. Recently speaking about his Lex Luthor character, per Deadline, Eisenberg said he doubts that he’ll be in another DC movie again, though he notes it’d be a “pleasant shock” if he were to get the offer. He also says that he won’t be too bothered if he never gets to play Lex again, as he didn’t grow up a comic book fan, but that he enjoyed doing Batman v Superman and playing that particular part.

Even putting Lex Luthor aside for a moment, Eisenberg also says he’s up for appearing in a new superhero film, even if that’s for a different DC movie or even a Marvel feature. Here’s what he said when asked if he would do another superhero movie.
Jesse Eisenberg Would Love to Return as Lex
It’s not the first time Jesse Eisenberg has commented on his potential future as Lex Luthor. Last year, the actor also spoke about the possibility in a ComicBookMovie.com interview. He similarly said he has no idea if and when his Lex Luthor would ever return in the DCEU, though he also offered some context as to why he’d be so happy to revisit that role, even as someone who doesn’t enjoy comic books. As Eisenberg said at the time, he felt like he had just gotten the hang of getting fully into that character when the movie came to an end.
Time will tell if we ever see Eisenberg’s Lex again, but we’ll always have Batman v Superman.
