A while back, as we reported here, Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) posted an image of the Juggernaut to his website, leaving fans speculating that he may be working on a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand, starring the Juggernaut.
Well, according to the newest post to Smokin’ Joe Carnahan.com, it seems that the writer/director wasn’t working on a Juggernaut film, but was instead working on a comic featuring the long-time enemy of the X-Men. That project has now fallen through, but instead Carnahan will be penning a story about another fan-favorite villain - The Taskmaster.
Carnahan says:

HOWEVER, my take on Juggernaut would have directly interfered with a major Marvel event, so I was asked to revive a character called TASKMASTER and just today, about an hour ago, I got word that we were moving forward. It will be a 4-6 volume series and will commence with the events following Taskmaster’s severe beat down at the hands of Moon Knight.
I’ve always been a latent comic nerd and this will represent my opening salvo into that world. I’m being given the opportunity to literally build this character’s origin story as well so I’m looking forward to pushing it as much as possible.

The Taskmaster is a villain who has the ability to mimic the physical movements of anyone he sees. After a brief career as a criminal, he realized it was more profitable to train lackeys for other villains by utilizing the techniques he has learned from his observation of superheroes. A mercenary at heart, Taskmaster will work for anyone on either side of the law, and in the past has even worked for the U.S. government to train government-sponsored heroes.
