DCU stars John Cena (Peacemaker) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) are set to team up for their next big project. Described by Variety as a “rowdy new action comedy,” the film is dubbed Killer Vacation. No plot details have been revealed, but the film is compared to “fun, splashy adventures like True Lies.” The project was said to be put on course to happen after Cena and Momoa met on the set of the upcoming sequel Fast X, as apparently, both actors saw great potential in partnering up for their own movie.
Killer Vacation is written by Mark and Brian Gunn. Peter Safran is producing alongside John Rickard, and it’s noted that the project was already in the works before Safran and James Gunn were put in charge of the DCU. Safran worked with Momoa as an Aquaman producer while Gunn directed Cena in both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. Cena memorably referenced Momoa’s character in Peacemaker.

Cena has multiple upcoming projects in the works, such as the action-comedy Freelance, the Looney Tunes movie Coyote vs. Acme, and Matthew Vaughn’s next film Argylle. He was also just recently cast to co-star with Idris Elba in an action film from the director of Nobody. Meanwhile, Momoa, who can be seen in the new Netflix movie Slumberland, just recently wrapped up work on Dune: Part Two after previously filming the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Both movies are coming to theaters in 2023.
What About That Buddy Action Movie Co-Starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista?
There has also been a lot of talk about Jason Momoa co-starring in an action-comedy movie with another pro wrestler turned Hollywood actor. Momoa and Dave Bautista had long been teasing such a film before announcing last year that the project was officially in the works. Not much else has yet been revealed about that project, but it’s in the works at MGM after Momoa and Bautista successfully sold their pitch to the studio.
“We materialized this from nothing more than love, respect and a desire to work together again,” Bautista said on Instagram when announcing the news. “Love you brother [Jason Momoa]. We manifested the sh*t out of this! Big Love over Big Egos. We win!”
That followed an original pitch from Bautista on Twitter hoping to make the movie happen, which simply said, “Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens. Here we go…Me and Momoa in a Lethal Weapon-type buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait.”
