According to Deadline (via ScreenRant), in Officer Exchange, Cena plays a “wrecking ball of a cop” named Shep. In the film, Shep teams up with a police officer from the local force and tries to bring down a diamond smuggling ring in India. There’s no information on who will play Cena’s partner in the movie, but given the film’s setting, the studio will probably bring in an Indian actor to portray the said character.

Cena’s Work Schedule Keeps Piling Up

For the past two years, John Cena has received more recognition and acclaim for his acting than in his entire career. A professional wrestler and WWE icon, John Cena made his debut with WWE Studios’ The Marine. He then went on to play several supporting roles before transitioning to prominent parts in films like Trainwreck, The Wall, Blockers, Ferdinand, and Bumblebee, in which his performance was well received.

In 2021, Cena became a blockbuster star with two highly successful films. He played Jakob Toretto in the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious Series, F9. He then played the role of Christopher Smith/Peacemaker in the DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad. His performance received an enormously positive response from the audience and the critics alike, leading HBO Max to greenlit a miniseries, Peacemaker, that James Gun has penned, focusing on the character’s journey post The Suicide Squad.

Besides Officer Exchange, John Cena has also been roped in for Coyote vs. Acme, a live-action and animation hybrid film based on the funny tales of The Road Runner and his altercations with Wild E. Coyote. Cena will play the head of the Acme Corporation in the movie. His company designs the defective products and resources that Wild E. Coyote uses to catch the Road Runner, only to repeatedly fail, leaving the latter embarrassed and hilariously trapped in his own plans.

Officer Exchange will add up to the films in which Cena has played an agent, a marine, or a cop, such as 12 Rounds, The Wall, F9, and Bumblebee. His WWE colleague Dave Bautista is also working on a buddy cop film with Jason Momoa. His other upcoming works include the reprising role of Jakob Toretto in the two-part finale of the Fast & Furious series, along with four more projects lined up in 2022, including Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, Judd Apatow’s The Bubble, and Amy Rice’s The Independent.

With such a massive slate of releases that Cena is working on, along with the addition of Officer Exchange to the list, Cena is being widely recognized for his acting skills and is turning himself into a commercially viable fan-favorite face, impressing studios altogether.
