Let’s welcome John Mulaney into the Saturday Night Live Five-Timers Club. As longtime viewers of NBC’s sketch comedy series will know, the Five-Timers Club is made up of those who’ve hosted the show at least five times. On Saturday Night, Mulaney guested hosted for his fifth time, officially putting him into the club. Of course, SNL used the opportunity to bring back several big names that are also part of the club to welcome Mulaney into the fold. You can watch the video below.
The segment features Paul Rudd, who just joined the Five-Timers Club in December. However, this induction was less than ideal, as that episode lost its studio audience and many cast members due to a rise in omicron cases at the time. Poking fun at the situation, Rudd jokes in the sketch, “Not to be a total b*tch, but my Five-Timers show in December was supposed to be a lot better. That is before the whole cast decided to call in sick.”

Candice Bergen tells Rudd that they “all had COVID,” prompting Steve Martin to reply, “So what? I have COVID right now. I got it from the Queen.”
With Elliott Gould also present, Mulaney comes in soon after, only to be greeted as “Megan Mulally” by Martin. Bergen congratulates Mulaney on joining the club, but then admits she doesn’t know who the comedian is. Mulaney jokes, “Well, Candice, you wouldn’t know me, but if you have a niece or a son who’s bad at sports, they might.”
More surprise stars are featured in the segment. Tina Fey comes in to hand Mulaney a cocktail that’s called the five-timer fizz. It’s made of “Justin Timberlake tequila, Dan Aykroyd’s vodka, and Tracy Morgan’s club soda, which is aquarium water.” When Mulaney brings up how he used to be a writer on the show, Fey snaps, “You were one of the best. You wrote that character with Bill Hader and 800 other things that aged terribly.”
Before closing out, the group is joined by Conan O’Brien making a surprise appearance. O’Brien jokes that he’s only there to sign up for Peacock. The former Conan host also mentions how he was previously an SNL writer as well and cracks, “John and I were never supposed to be on TV. We’re hideous. Right? Say it, John!”
“I guess,” Mulaney says.
Saturday Night Live Got Serious at the Start of the Show
NBC
At the start of the show, SNL dropped its traditional comedy segment for the cold open. Instead, they brought in the Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York to pay tribute to Ukraine. The moment was one of very few instances when SNL began on a serious note, this in light of recent headlines related to Russia and Ukraine.
Coming up in the month of March, Oscar Isaac of Moon Knight will be hosting the next episode on March 5 with Charli XCX as the musical guest. Zoe Kravitz of The Batman will come in the week after on march 12 alongside Rosalia.
You can stream the new episode of Saturday Night Live on Peacock if you missed it live on NBC.
