Director Chad Stahelski has been discussing nunchucks and praising John Wick: Chapter 4 star Keanu Reeves while declaring that both he and his star need to get even better for John Wick 5. Speaking with IGN, the action movie filmmaker revealed that Reeves knocked himself out multiple times when learning how to wield nunchucks for the upcoming fourth outing. It’s hard to imagine how the actor could dedicate himself anymore to the franchise, but that’s precisely what Stahelski believes needs to happen.

Of course, it’s not just Reeves who needs to “get better” if they ever hope to reach the heights Stahelski has in mind for a fifth outing, with the filmmaker stating that it all begins with him.

“Keanu’s got to get better. I’m saying he’s got to get better at John Wick. He’s got to expand, he’s got to get better at martial arts. He’s got to get better in every way. Keanu does nunchucks in this movie, which you’ve seen in the trailer. Keanu spent months knocking himself out, getting good at nunchucks. Ambidextrous, right hand, left hand, while shooting a gun. F***ing guy is great at it.”

The sheer level of dedication from Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves is undoubtedly why the John Wick franchise has become so successful, with both the director and star constantly pushing themselves to find new ways to impress audiences with action movie shenanigans. Based on the latest trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4, which looks like an action movie fan’s dream, they will have their work cut out for making John Wick 5.

“It starts with me. So if you want a better John Wick 5, I’ve got to get better. I have to learn some tricks as a director, I have to try new lenses. I have to learn how to edit. I have to learn how to shoot better. I have to learn how to talk to my cast better. I have to be able to go out and take meetings and cast my movies better to get the best actors I can.”
