The upcoming action movie sequel, John Wick: Chapter 4, will find the intrepid hitman coming to terms with what he does and how it affects those around him, according to director Chad Stahelski. Not that those feelings will slow him down any. Coming courtesy of Total Film, who have also revealed a new image of Keanu Reeves as the iconic assassin, the filmmaker offers a little more insight into what audiences can expect from Wick when he returns to theaters next year.

So, now four movies in and with hundreds of dead people left in his wake, John Wick will finally begin to understand that his actions have consequences. Of course, while he may at last start to grow his moral center, Wick still has a lot of people to shoot before he can dream of walking away from his ongoing vendetta.

“In John Wick 4, I would say, John comes to terms with how what he does affects people that he cares about. There’s always got to be consequences for your actions. And in this, we’re starting to see that John understands what the consequences are. Not that it curbs him in any way.”

Beloved actor Keanu Reeves has become known for his commitment to the action sequences at the core of the John Wick franchise. And while you’d think he were used to it all by now, he recently teased how John Wick: Chapter 4 will take things to another level, calling the movie the “hardest” one he has ever made.

“John Wick 4 is the hardest movie I’ve ever made,” Reeves said while appearing at this year’s CCXP event. “In terms of action, it’s the hardest film I’ve ever made. But that’s what makes it good.”

Not only will John Wick: Chapter 4 push Keanu Reeves to his limit, it will do the same for the character as well. “We keep finding new and interesting ways to have John Wick suffer,” Stahelski recently threatened. “That’s where the action comes from. Figure out how to make him suffer, and then design backward.”

Directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, John Wick: Chapter 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen as Caine, Bill Skarsgård as The Marquis de Gramont, Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King, Hiroyuki Sanada as Shimazu, Shamier Anderson as Tracker, Lance Reddick as Charon, Rina Sawayama as Akira, Scott Adkins as Killa, and Ian McShane as Winston Scott, as well as Clancy Brown, Marko Zaror, and Natalia Tena.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is scheduled to be released on March 24, 2023, by Lionsgate.
