Johnny Depp has legally found vindication with his recent defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, as a jury found that the allegations of domestic violence she had made against him were false and defamatory. While Heard’s lawyers have stated their plans to appeal the verdict, Depp is now looking forward to moving on to the next chapter of his life, his name now cleared in the eyes of the overwhelming majority of the public.
On Instagram, Depp posted a video clip along with a statement thanking his fans for standing by him throughout the trial. The actor also says he wants his fans to “move forward” alongside him by putting the ugliness from the trial in the rearview mirror, and goes on to thank everyone for their continued support. Johnny Depp Says The Jury Gave Him His Life Back
New Line Cinema
Johnny Depp saw his career hit a setback with his ongoing legal problems with Amber Heard. He says this cost him at least two major roles in blockbuster franchises, as he claims Disney fired him from the Pirates of the Caribbean series and was asked by Warner Bros. to resign from Fantastic Beasts 3. The good news for Depp is that the jury believed him, as did the majority of the trial’s observers. In a statement released after the trial, Depp stated that he felt like he had been given his life back.
“From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome,” the statement read in part. “Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that.”
He added, “I am, and have been, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and the colossal support and kindness from around the world. I hope that my quest to have the truth be told will have helped others, men or women, who have found themselves in my situation, and that those supporting them never give up. I also hope that the position will now return to innocent until proven guilty, both within the courts and in the media.”
