The smash hit Netflix series Cobra Kai is coming back full circle. After previously debuting on YouTube and now streaming on Netflix, Cobra Kai serves as a followup series to The Karate Kid and its original sequels. It flips the narrative with William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence stepping into more of a protagonist role, with the former movie villain reopening the Cobra Kai dojo while rekindling his old feud with Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso.

Fans are tremendously excited for season 4 of Cobra Kai to hit Netflix later this year. Ahead of the New Year’s Eve release, a slew of new first look photos have been published online by People. There are seven photos in total, though one that particularly stands out features Johnny and Daniel in training as they recreate the famous maneuver that helped the latter defeat the former in 1984. This time, however, Johnny is the one in the crane kick position, though it seems to be all in good fun as the nearby students watch in amusement.

Another photo depicts Johnny extending his hand to Daniel, and it’s unclear if Mr. LaRusso will accept the handshake offer. A pack of students from the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos watches on from a doorway in one picture while Tory (Peyton List) and Robby (Tanner Buchanan) duke it out in another. Daniel and Anthony (Griffin Santopietro) share a father-son moment in a sneak peek photo as another picture features John Kreese (Martin Kove) and a returning Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) plotting something. Finally, Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young) is shown bullied in school which leads to his decision to turn to karate.

The fourth season will consist of ten episodes and is set to drop on New Year’s Eve. This means that we are getting two full seasons of Cobra Kai in the same year with season 3 dropping on January 1, 2021. That’s definitely made the wait between seasons far less painful than before. It also helps to know that Netflix already went ahead and renewed the show for a fifth season, so once season 4 is all binged, fans can start looking forward to more Cobra Kai in the future. There’s just no telling yet when that new season will arrive.

“Prepare yourselves, because season 4 is our biggest one yet,” the series creators, writers, and executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg told People, teasing the new season. “With new alliances, new students, new conflicts and the return of a legendary franchise character, it’s anyone’s game. Strap in for a wild ride on the way to the 51st Annual All Valley Tournament!”

Previously the trio had also teased the incoming return of Terry Silver by stating, “Since the beginning of the series, we’ve been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe. That moment is now. We can’t wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith’s majestic return to the franchise.”

Cobra Kai will release its fourth season on December 31, 2021, only on Netflix. The first three seasons are available now to watch on the streaming service. The first look photos of the new season were originally published by People.
