Jackass star Johnny Knoxville has weighed in on where things currently stand with former franchise co-star Bam Margera. The two has very publicly had a falling out when Margera was fired from Jackass Forever early into filming. After lambasting Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine on social media, Margera went on to file a lawsuit against the two and others involved with the film. The suit has since been settled amid Margera’s continued struggles with addiction that have seen him in and out of rehab.

In a new interview with Variety, Knoxville said how he hasn’t spoken directly with Margera since things went south, detailing the last time that it happened. Knoxville goes on to explain that what he wants most is for Margera to overcome his demons and get better, despite all that has happened between the two.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Presented with the hypothetical question of whether Margera could one day return for a new Jackass project, Knoxville suggested that they’d be open to talking about it, but that there’s nothing more important than Bam’s health.

“I haven’t spoken to Bam in about a year and a half, give or take six months. [“Jackass” director] Jeff Tremaine, Steve-O and I had a face-to-face meeting with Bam and his wife, trying to figure out how to get him help. Then we had a Zoom as a group not long after that, and that was the last time I talked to him. It boils down to: I love Bam. I know that a lot has happened. I just want him to get well for himself and his family. I love the guy, and I want him to get well and stay well.”

“I think that would be a discussion. I only want him to get better. That’s the first step. He has to take that step and maintain that step, because everything else is just gravy. Jackass is not important when you’re talking about someone’s life.”

What Comes Next for the Jackass Crew?

     Paramount Pictures

Whether Bam Margera could even return to Jackass will depend upon if the franchise really ends up moving forward. There have been reports of a reboot series happening at Paramount+, and it seems like the original crew could still be involved in a limited capacity. Johnny Knoxville explained how it was never officially announced that Jackass Forever would be their final hurrah, though he admits that he can’t put his body on the line anymore like he used to, making the addition of new cast members all the more necessary.

For now, you can catch Knoxville in Reboot, which you can find streaming on Hulu.

“We never said whether it was or wasn’t [the final film]. That got written somewhere and people ran with it. If we did continue, we would lean on the younger cast more and the old guys would take a little step back but still be a part of it. I would have to step back because my neurologist said I can’t have any more concussions.”
