Joker: Folie À Deux continues to add familiar faces to the highly anticipated sequel. Lady Gaga was finally confirmed to star in the film earlier this month, and reports have begun to emerge suggesting Zazie Beetz will also reprise her role in the second installment of the Joker. Now, Folie À Deux is announcing a new member, Brendan Gleeson. Deadline confirmed the news on Thursday, as the Harry Potter star makes his way to DC.

The Irish-born actor has been a part of countless films over his career, spanning three decades. Braveheart, 28 Days Later, The Village, and The Guard are just a few movies on his credits. In addition, the actor appeared in three Harry Potter films as Alastor ‘MadEye’ Moody from 2005 to 2010. His most recent feature film was The Tragedy of Macbeth, following a Scottish lord who becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife supports all of his plans as he seizes power.

Gleeson has starred alongside another star of the DC universe, Colin Farrell. The pair worked together on In Bruges, following a guilt-stricken hitman and his partner as they await orders from their boss. Unfortunately, the duo won’t cross paths, as Farrell starred in The Batman, a segment of the DC universe that won’t interconnect with Phoenix’s Joker.

The initial 2019 film brought a record-shattering $1.07 billion at the box office, a monumental achievement for an R-rated movie. In addition, Joker would win two Oscars, including Best Actor and Best Original Score. The team behind Joker: Folie À Deux is hoping for similar results. The long-awaited sequel will arrive in theaters on Oct. 4, 2024.

With the addition of Brendan Gleeson, Joker: Folie À Deux now has four big-name stars attached to the project. Phoenix, Gaga, Gleeson, and Beetz are the presumed cast, and the potential with that lineup is through the roof. Of course, the rumors of the sequel being a musical are looking to be true after the confirmed reports surrounding Lady Gaga, and that in itself will make Folie À Deux entirely different from what came before it.

Todd Phillips is returning to direct the sequel, and his vision is part of what made Joker so unique. Now, rumors from the Deadline report suggest the sequel will primarily be set in Arkham Asylum, one of DC’s most infamous locations. The area is home to Gotham’s craziest and most dangerous criminals and perhaps the meeting point of the Joker and Harley Quinn.

Gleeson’s role in Joker: Folie À Deux is still unknown; however, he’s sure to be memorable in the part. As production ramps up ahead of the 2024 release date, audiences can expect to hear much more from the talented actor and his role in the sequel, which will be five years in the making.
