Netflix has released the full trailer for You People. Directed by Kenya Barris, who co-wrote the film with lead star Jonah Hill, You People is a “modern love story” between a white man and a Black woman whose relationship is tested by their respective families. This puts Hill at odds with Eddie Murphy, who plays the father of Hill’s characters new girlfriend (Lauren London). You can watch the trailer below ahead of the film’s premiere on Netflix on Jan. 27.

The film boasts a strong ensemble cast. In addition to Hill, London, and Murphy, the film stars David Duchovny, Nia Long, Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage, Mike Epps, Emily Arlook, Alani La La Anthony, and Bryan Greenberg with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

For London, who recently spoke about working on the movie (via Tudum), she particularly enjoyed the project as its filming locations had her revisiting many of her favorite childhood hotspots. That just made the project that much more “special” for her, as the actress explained.

“My favorite location was Simply Wholesome,” she revealed. “Growing up in LA, I used to walk to Simply Wholesome and grab a patty or a smoothie. Being inside a Black establishment that promotes wellness and health in the heart of our community, and that business being highlighted and shown in a big-budget film, that was very special.”

“These collaborators are masters at their craft,” London also said of her co-stars. “You have Eddie Murphy and Julia and Nia Long and David Duchovny and Jonah Hill — and Kenya as the captain of the ship. Everyone brought in their specialness and their art.”

On relating to her own character, Amira, London added, “[She’s a] laid-back LA girl. Very chill, goes with the flow, very stylish, very easygoing. Someone I would want to be friends with.”

Barris produced the film with Hill and Kevin Misher. Executive producers were David Hyman, Matt Dines, Hale Rothstein, Alison Goodwin, Mychelle Deschamps, Andy Berman, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster.

You People will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 27, 2023.
