Following its first stop-motion film, Monkeypaw Productions will continue to divest its storytelling experience with Quiet Part Loud, its first fiction audio series. The new project will consist of 12 short-form episodes that will be available to binge all at once. Monkeypaw will team up with Spotify’s Gimlet Media to produce, while Tracy Letts, Arian Moayed, Christina Hendricks, and Taran Killam will lend their voices to the new series.

Accordion to the producers of the show, Quiet Part Loud will use immersive audio and sound design to present “a haunting parable and an unflinching examination of the current state of fear and divisiveness in America” that also “explores the roots of our conspiracy-obsessed culture where disinformation now runs rampant.”

It seems as though the new series promises terror with a side of social commentary. As you might have expected from Monkeypaw’s founder Jordan Peele, the filmmaker that made Get Out, Us, and most recently, Nope — all of which provide a look at the dark side of American culture and human nature as a whole. Here’s the official synopsis for Quiet Part Loud, courtesy of Variety:

“Set before the Trump presidency, Quiet Part Loud follows Rick Egan (Letts), a fear-mongering, right-wing radio host who loses his platform in the wake of 9/11 for spreading xenophobic rumors surrounding a group of missing Muslim teenagers. Eight years later, the washed-up Egan is slumming it on the convention circuit when a mysterious woman (Hendricks) offers a tantalizing revelation: one of the missing teens has reappeared. Egan embarks on a crusade for vindication and ultimately makes a Faustian bargain with a demonic, shape-shifting sound monster known as ‘The Blank’ (Killam) — which thrives on hatred.”

Peele himself will executive produce the series along with Win Rosenfeld. Besides his regular work at Monkeypaw, Rosenfeld also collaborated on the script for Candyman (2021) alongside Peele and Nia DaCosta. Mac Rogers and Clay McLeod Chapman will serve as the writers of Quiet Part Loud. Spotify’s head of scripted podcasts, Mimi O’Donnell, will serve as the director in addition to also being an executive producer on the series. Katie Pastore, Amy McLeish, and Geoff Foster will serve as additional producers.

Quiet Part Loud is due to be released on November 15th. In the meantime, you can also listen to the other fictional audio series that are on Spotify. Such as Welcome to Night Vale, Alice Isn’t Dead, The Black Tapes, and many more. If you haven’t already, you can also catch Monkeypaw’s latest film, Wendell & Wild, on Netflix.

“I’m always looking for new ways to explore and innovate in genre storytelling. The potential in audio was tremendously appealing: By stripping horror of all its visuals, you can focus on just conjuring dread and unease in your listener’s ears on this intimate and visceral level. I wanted us to make the scariest podcast of all time,” said Peele.
