Say goodbye to Sara Sidle. After Jorja Fox reprised her role from the original CSI show in the recent revival series CSI: Vegas, the show was given an official renewal for season 2 by CBS. Along with that news came word that William Petersen would not be returning as Gil Grissom in season 2, as he only signed on to star in one season of the revival. Fox has now announced that she won’t be coming back either, as she can’t fathom seeing Sara and Gil separated once again.

“Hey all you CSI fans! After much deliberating, I have decided not to ‘Sidle up’ for CSI: Vegas," Fox says in a post on Twitter. “For me CSI has always been a love story. The story that people can find love in the darkest of places and times. And the story that love, even in the darkest of places and times, can expand and grow roots and endure. I personally just can’t split Sara and Grissom up again. So goes Grissom…..So goes Sara. Wherever they go, they belong together. Thanks for watching everyone!!!!! Keep tuning in! I know I will. CSI: Vegas has an incredible team and it should be an amazing show!”

We could still see the pair show up for a cameo at some point in the future, even if they’re no longer main characters. Prior to the renewal, showrunner Jason Tracey told TV Insider that there’s “always a seat at the table for Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle.”

“When Sara and Grissom come back together as a couple, it was a risky decision that Jason Tracey made, but it’s been so fun to play and honestly an homage to long-term love and what does it mean to be with somebody really through the good times and the bad times over an extended period of time,” Fox said of the pair. “I’m a romantic and I believe in love and I’ve never had an opportunity to play a long-term relationship like this.”

Can CSI: Vegas Survive Without Its Legacy Stars?

In the age of legacy sequels and new continuations to classic movies and TV shows, CSI: Vegas brought back many fans of the original CSI by featuring the returns of Fox and Petersen as Sara and Gil. They were joined by a new cast of characters led by Paula Newsome’s Maxine Roby which also included Matt Lauria as Josh Folsom, Mandeep Dhillon as Allie Rajan, and Mel Rodriguez as Dr. Hugo Ramirez.

A second season happening at all is still great news for the returning cast and crew, as the original plan was not for CSI: Vegas to launch an ongoing series. It was initially billed as an epilogue limited series that would revisit Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom along with what’s been happening at the crime lab in Las Vegas. Perhaps Petersen felt that he has now done all that was left that he needed to do with the character and Fox agrees about Sara.

CSI: Vegas did well enough in the ratings for CBS, but it’s going to be interesting to see how many fans come back out to see season 2 with both Petersen and Fox no longer a part of the show. As of now, it’s unclear when CSI: Vegas will premiere its second season.
