Chalk up another Emmy win for Julia Garner. At the Primetime Emmy Awards, Garner was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her acclaimed role as Ruth Langmore in the final season of the Netflix series Ozark. She managed to pick up the win, marking her third time winning an Emmy for the series, but as Garner explained afterward, she was pleasantly surprised by this year’s win.

“I honestly didn’t expect it this year," Garner said, per Variety. “I feel so grateful, and then I went up on that stage and I blacked out and there were so many people that I forgot to thank… I feel very grateful, but yeah, it’s an out-of-body experience.”

There had been some heavy competition for Garner in that category. The other nominees included Patricia Arquette for Apple TV+’s Severance as Harmony Cobel; HoYeon Jung for Netflix’s Squid Game as Kang Sae-byeok; Christina Ricci for Showtime’s Yellowjackets as Misty Quigley; Rhea Seehorn for AMC’s Better Call Saul as Kim Wexler; J. It was not the only nomination for Garner at the Emmys. She was also up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for her role as Anna Delvey in the Netflix series Inventing Anna. That award was won by Amanda Seyfried for her role as Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s The Dropout. The other nominees were Toni Collette for HBO’s The Staircase as Kathleen Peterson; Lily James for Hulu’s Pam & Tommy as Pamela Anderson; Sarah Paulson for FX’s Impeachment: American Crime Story as Linda Tripp; and Margarey Qualley for Netflix’s Maid as Alex Russell.

Could an Oscar Be Next for Julia Garner?

Ozark might be over, but we will be seeing a lot of Julia Garner in the future. After impressing in Ozark and Inventing Anna on Netflix, Garner lined up the coveted role as Madonna in an upcoming biopic about the famous singer. Musician biopics sometimes make a big splash at awards season, so could we possibly see the Madonna movie with Garner wind up doing the same?

Garner is also attached to star in the upcoming horror film Apartment 7A. Her involvement alone has many fans interested to check out the film when it comes out. Reportedly, there are rumors that the film is a prequel to Rosemary’s Baby. It is not yet clear when the movie will be released.
