In recent years, there has certainly been a massive uptick in character crossovers. Not only influenced by the massive superhero team-up featured in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but this type of rare occasion was now becoming more mainstream due to the seemingly unlimited crossover possibilities featured in the hit online game Fortnite. Suddenly, all sorts of characters from different franchises are finally having the chance to either fight one another or team up in some sort of spectacular fashion.
A great example of a monumental crossing between worlds occurred in a Warner Bros. animated film that was made in 2019. While straight-to-DVD releases are purposely made that way to bolster sales, Batman vs. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was an overnight success. More recently, another two franchises that decided to cross the forbidden door were Mystery Inc. and another well-known very frightened canine. Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog saw the iconic animals and their sidekicks take on Courage’s most terrifying villains which included Katzs and duck Le Quack. The tradition is not ending anytime soon as Warner Bros. has come up with the wildest of crossovers that will be released on video soon.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
While the video game entertainment company Rooster Teeth is best known for its machinima series set within the Halo universe called Red vs. Blue. They also produce a wildly popular anime-inspired series called RWBY. Pronounced Ruby, the nine-season series is about huntsmen and huntresses within the world of Remnant that seek out devastating monsters called Grimm. Highlighting four of those that have this tactical skillset, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang, the adventures were exciting enough to not only spawn spin-off series and video games, but the original creation attained the award for the Best Animated Series by The Streamys multiple times.
This Japanese-influenced and computer-created story and all of its characters in said universe are now going to meet DC’s most powerful team, The Justice League, in an upcoming two-part fateful saga called Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen. While no confirmed information is known about the second part, we have the rundown on the first half of this epic event.
Justice League x RWBY: SuperHeroes and Huntsmen Part One: The Plot
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Soon arriving on digital, 4K, and Blu-ray, and produced by Warner Brothers Animation, DC Comics, and Rooster Teeth, a more updated Justice League of America roster will take center stage in this massive team-up spectacle. Joining Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern are Cyborg and Vixen, who seem to be stepping in for Aquaman and Martian Manhunter, who seem to be missing this time around. Drifted away like a fish out of water to a new world called Remnant that is full of monster-hunting warriors, the iconic superheroes are then mysteriously reverted to teenagers by the force of an unknown entity.
In the midst of all this, the four mainstays of RWBY have no other choice but to find a way to work together with these mysterious newcomers before it’s too late. As their whole world is starting to change and the planet literally changing for the worse, a new and super-powered Grimm looks to finish off the already weakened world.
Justice League x RWBY: SuperHeroes and Huntsmen Part One: The Cast & Crew
Otter Media / Warner Brothers Japan
Fans of long-running RWBY are in luck. Lindsay Jones, Kara Eberle, Arryn Zech, and Barbara Dunkelman are returning as the voices for Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang. With familiar names leading the charge, Chandler Riggs will be Superman, Nat Wolff will play Batman and Natalie Alyn Lind will step into the role of Wonder Woman. David Errigo Jr. will speed into becoming the Flash, Jeannie Tirado will wield the all-powerful ring as Green Lantern, Tru Valentino will be the half-man and half-machine Cyborg, and finally, Ozioma Akagha will be Vixen. The audience might be reminded of The Walking Dead as Riggs played Carl Grimes in the show and ABC’s The Goldbergs might wander into people’s minds as Lind portrays Dana Caldwell.
Other supporting roles include Jen Brown as Pyrrha, Aaron Dismuke as Oscar, Tiana Camacho as Glynda, Jason Douglas as Jacque, Samantha Ireland as Nora, Shannon McCormick as Professor Ozpin, Miles Luna as Jaune, Neath Oum as Lie Ren, and Tara Platt as Kali. Pointing at some of the successes of the propping performers, Dismuke has lent his voice to over a dozen different anime including My Hero Academia and Dr. Stone while Platt has done the same for the hit series Boruto and Tiger and Bunny.
As for the names behind the scenes of this one-of-a-kind animated feature, Meghan Fitzmartin, who helped create over fifty episodes of Supernatural, wrote the script, and RWBY’s own Kerry Shawcross is directing.
There are no shortcomings with the production department on this one as Sam Register and Michael Uslan are executive producers and Laura Yates is the supervising producer. Kimberly Moreau (who has worked on countless DC animated movies), Ethan Spaulding (of Mortal Kombat Legends fame) and Jim Krieg (fellow producer on Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham) will all be chairing the development of this new Justice League and RWBY historic event.
Release Date
While there is no set release date confirmed just yet, fans of both the DC super team and the skilled huntresses of Remnant won’t have to wait that long as Part One of this wild collision of two worlds will be available sometime in Spring 2023. There is no word so far concerning when Part Two should arrive either on store shelves or digitally.
Everything Else We Know
DC Comics / Otter Media / Warner Brothers Japan
This might come as a visual shock for some but as opposed to RWBY characters becoming more colorized and bright which would be in tune with DC-centric stories, the comic book heroes will be attuned with a more computer-generated and cel-shaded feel for the world of Remnant instead. Not only being cosmetically different based on their age swapping, but all the Justice League characters will also have more RWBY universe-centric outfits.
A young version of Superman and Batman fighting alongside warrior heroines from another world was certainly not on anyone’s bingo card for 2023 but is still certainly welcome by both comic book fans and anime enthusiasts alike.
