The gun-slinging, cowboy hat-wearing, grizzled lawman Raylan Givens is back with Timothy Olyphant reprising his role. Justified, the critically acclaimed series ran 6 seasons and won a Peabody Award in 2011, is getting a revival, Variety reports. The show followed Givens chasing down Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder, the villain in writer Elmore Leonard’s book, Fire in the Hole. The new show, Justified: City Primeval, is based on the book City Primeval; High Noon in Detroit.

The show will shift focus from the hollows of the Bluegrass State to the Motor City, Detroit. The synopsis set the show eight years after Raylan’s time in Lexington and Harlan of Kentucky. When first seen in the original series, Raylan pursues a mob boss in Miami whom he kills and claims the killing was justified before being ordered back to the Lexington Marshall service. City Primeval will start again in Miami, this time with a 14-year-old daughter in tow. The series will focus on events that occur after an event on Florida roadways, which will set up Raylan pursuing Clement Mansell, The Oklahoma Wildman. He is billed as a desperado-style character mixed with a little bit of psychotic sociopath. He has been on the run from Detroit police for a while and intends to stay a free man. Mansell will be aided by his attorney, Carolyn Wilder, who has her own agenda and story that will play out.

Dave Andron and Michael Dinner will head up the showrunners. The series will also have Michael Dinner directing. Graham Yost, the creator of the FX series, will join Olyphant, Sarah Timberman, Taylor Elmore, Chris Provenzano Cark Beverly, and Peter Leonard as executive directors. The show will have several members of the old crew returning, which makes FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier very happy.

Sony Pictures co-presidents Jeff Frost and Jason Clodfelter added:

Olyphant is no stranger to playing a lawman, with his part in Deadwood as Seth Bullock. Olyphant essentially played Raylan Givens again in The Mandalorian as Marshall Cobb Vanth in the show’s second season premiere. If City Primeval captures the original whit and grittiness of the original series, fans and new viewers will be in for a treat.
