After headlining the amazing Mare of Easttown in 2021, Kate Winslet is set to lead another television series, I Am…, on Channel 4. The Oscar-winning actress will also be sharing the screen with her daughter, Mia Threapleton, in the show. I Am… is an award-winning female-led drama series that premiered on Channel 4 in 2019. The show follows an anthology format and consists of three episodes per season, with each telling an intimate, realistic story of a woman and her perspective on life. Every episode of I Am… is written and directed by Dominic Savage (True Love, The Escape) in collaboration with the leading actress and is shot in a documentary style with semi-improvised dialogues.
So far, I Am… has featured several renowned actresses like Vicky McClure (Line of Duty), Samantha Morton (In America), Gemma Chan (Eternals), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), and Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack). As is the norm, Kate Winslet will also be working alongside creator Dominic Savage to bring her character to life. But unlike the other episodes, Winslet will have more work to do as hers (titled I Am Ruth) will be a feature-length episode. In a statement (via Deadline), Winslet expressed her excitement about working on I Am…, saying,
While most people know Kate Winslet from films like Titanic and The Reader, she has also starred in acclaimed television dramas like HBO’s Mildred Pierce and Mare of Easttown, winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for both. She will also co-star with her daughter Mia Honey Threapleton in I Am Ruth, marking the mother-daughter duo’s second collaboration after 2014’s A Little Chaos.
“I have always admired Dominic’s work and, in particular, his commitment to telling real stories. British television is at an all-time high, and I feel excited and honoured to be part of this community, especially right now.”
No details have been released regarding the other two episodes in I Am… season 3, but Winslet’s I Am Ruth will begin filming later this month. Dominic Savage also released a statement saying how honored he is to work with Winslet.
“It is a complete honour for me to be working and collaborating with Kate Winslet on this first film of the new series of I Am for Channel 4. Kate is such a legend, such an incredible and sublime acting talent, and I can’t wait to start shooting this unique and important story that we have created together.”
Kate Winslet Will Next Appear In James Cameron’s Avatar 2
Kate Winslet will be reuniting with James Cameron for Avatar 2. The film has been a long time in the making and the makers have promised the film defy expectations. Avatar 2 will feature new underwater motion capture technology that Cameron himself helped develop. Since the film includes several underwater scenes, the actors underwent extensive training to control their breathing. Winslet even broke the onscreen record for holding one’s breath, which was previously held by Tom Cruise.
“It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again. That came at the end of four weeks worth of quite intense training and it was in the dive tank, it was in the training tank. But I loved it,” Winslet told ET in 2020, after recording 7 minutes, 14 seconds underwater.
Kate Winslet stars in Avatar 2 alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, and Vin Diesel. After long delays, Avatar 2 is slated to be released this year on December 16, 2022.
