Ke Huy Quan made a triumphant return to acting earlier this year after he starred in Everything Everywhere All at Once as Waymond Wang. The project, helmed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, was a tremendous success with audiences and the box office, boasting a 95% critic and 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film narrowly crossed the $100 million mark, becoming the first A24 movie to do so.
Quan was well-known in the 80s for his lovable roles in Indiana Jones, the Temple of Doom, and The Goonies. Unfortunately, the actor was finding less and less work as time went on, transitioning to stunt work in the easily 2000s. Luckily, Quan returned to the big screen with Everything Everywhere, putting his name back into the spotlight.

Quan recently spoke with the New York Times, sharing just how much the audience reception meant to the 51-year-old actor. “To have this as my comeback movie and to get this recognition and warm embrace? I’ve cried so much in the last six months from reading the comments or from people coming up to me,” Quan explains. He would continue, saying he is incredibly thankful for a second shot in Hollywood.
According to the NYT, Quan could not finish his statement as he became too emotional. However, fans of Quan and his films are rejoicing as the actor is set to continue his career for the foreseeable future, with a big 2023 ahead.
“How often does a man in his 50s get a chance like this? How often do actors get a second act? I really hope that if people are reading my story, it gives them hope, it gives them courage to give voice to that dream they once had. It’s so difficult to be an actor in this business, and I want those people who are doubting themselves or have dreams fading away because they think it’s not going to happen…”
Ke Huy Quan Will Star in American Born Chinese
Netflix
Ke Huy Quan is ready to star in a television role for Disney as he makes his way to American Born Chinese. He will once again pair with Michelle Yeoh, as Stephanie Hsu, Poppy Liu, Daniel Wu, Chin Han, Derek Yates, and Sydney Taylor join the cast. The official synopsis for the series reads: “The story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling his high school social life with his immigrant home life. When he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods. The action-comedy explores issues of identity, culture, and family.”
The project comes from Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Shang-Chi sequel, and the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Fans can see Quan in American Born Chinese, releasing on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
