Who would you rather be, Neo or John Wick? That’s an interesting question that may take some thought to answer for many Keanu Reeves fans, and asking the actor himself will get an interesting response. As of now, fans of Reeves are anticipating his return to both of those franchises, with The Matrix Resurrections hitting theaters this month and John Wick: Chapter 4 coming in 2022.
When it comes to who he’d rather be, this question was answered on the 100th episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk. Reeves joined Carrie-Anne Moss and Priyanka Chopra Jonas along with Jada, Willow, and Jaden Smith for a special Matrix reunion. In the episode, a fan asked Reeves if he’d rather be Neo or John Wick in real life, and here’s what the actor had to say.

Clearly, Keanu Reeves is taking Neo’s side in this situation, in part due to the life he’d have with Trinity. That definitely sounds a lot less depressing than living the life of loner John Wick, who can’t even have a sweet puppy dog as company without something terrible happening to it. Killing bad guys by the dozen in the name of vengeance is also fun for audiences to watch, but how fun would this life really be to live in reality? There are certainly a lot more possibilities to come with living in a Matrix world, even if the sense of danger is still present. Better yet, John Wick would totally understand.
“Lots of ways to go at that. Because we’re here speaking about Resurrections and Matrix Resurrections, I think–and I don’t think John Wick would mind. I think he’d understand. But I think to be able to be with Trinity and have that life with them together and see what would happen– I think John Wick would be like ‘I got your back.’”
Last year, Reeves answered a similar question on The Late Show when asked by Stephen Colbert which of the two characters would win in a fight. Reeves insisted that “they wouldn’t fight,” as they’d more likely be natural allies. Neo could even “bring the dog back” thanks to the Matrix while John Wick could help Neo with his battle against the machines. Sounds like the start of a Keanuverse…
We’ll first see Reeves back in the role of Neo in The Matrix Resurrections on Dec. 22, but the character comes with that unique John Wick look this time around. Directed by Lana Wachowski, the sequel also brings back Carrie-Anne Moss, Lambert Wilson, and Jada Pinkett Smith. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Jessica Henwick are among the new cast members. The movie was originally set to premiere on the very same day as John Wick: Chapter 4 until both features were delayed thanks to the pandemic.
As for John Wick: Chapter 4, that movie is now set to hit theaters on May 27, 2022. It brings back Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane with franchise newcomers including Rina Sawayama, Donnie Yen, and Shamier Anderson. There are also early plans for a John Wick 5 as well.
