John Wick star Keanu Reeves was reportedly taken aback by the recent comments made by Friends star Matthew Perry in his memoir. While Reeves has not said anything publicly about the comments, sources close to the actor have revealed via Us Weekly that the action star felt that Perry’s remarks came out of “left field.”

This mysterious insider seemingly reveals what we had all assumed — that Matthew Perry has no reason to show a dislike for Keanu Reeves. The apparent issue that the sitcom star has with Reeves was first unveiled thanks to Perry’s recent memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, in which he questions, “why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” Perry continues, making a jibe at Reeves’ acting talents. “River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down," he said.

“Keanu thought the comments came out of left field. It’s kind of backfired on Matthew anyway, which is why he had to apologize.”

If that were not already bad and unnecessary enough, the Friends star brings Reeves into the conversation again later on when explaining how he reacted to the death of comedy legend Chris Farley. “I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us,” the excerpt reads.

Perry has since apologized for the comments following major backlash online. “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu,” he said. “I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.” Reeves has seen a resurgence in his career over the last few years thanks to his leading role in the John Wick franchise, with the actor revealing time and again what a genuinely kind-hearted, caring person he is when not on screen. So yes, Perry would have been wise just to use his own name rather than attempt to besmirch such a beloved Hollywood A-lister.

Keanu Reeves Will Next Return to Theaters in John Wick: Chapter 4

Based on the recent trailer, the fourth outing for the unstoppable, dog-loving hitman will find John Wick taking on his most lethal adversaries yet. With a price still on his head and ever-increasing, Wick will now take his fight to the top and do battle against the High Table as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, with a script co-written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, John Wick: Chapter 4 will feature a stellar ensemble cast, including Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Clancy Brown, Marko Zaror, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ian McShane, Shamier Anderson, and Rina Sawayama alongside Keanu Reeves.

Following a litany of delays, John Wick: Chapter 4 is now scheduled to be released on March 24, 2023.
