The end of the MCU’s Infinity Saga brought with it a sense of finality to the Marvel franchise, and many believed the defeat of Thanos after more than 20 movies would be the end of the MCU’s reign at the box office. However, it was only the end of a chapter, as seeds of the multiverse had already been sown, and many other avenues were still to be explored from the world of Marvel Comics. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be the start of a new phase for Marvel, and as the Multiverse Saga really kicks off, Kevin Feige has revealed more about exactly what is stopping the new “Big Bad” of the MCU from being quite as powerful as he is set to become.

While speaking to Empire Magazine, Kevin Feige explained where Quantumania finds Kang and how he needs assistance to help him reach his multiverse-dominating potential. He said:

“He is the obvious choice as you’re dealing with the Multiverse. Kang allowed us to do a new kind of Big Bad. He’s a different type of villain, warring amongst themselves as much as he’s warring with our heroes. Kang’s a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back. He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and anywhen he wants if he can get it online. If only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles.”

Will Quantumania’s Kang Be His Final Form?

Jonathan Majors has already appeared as one form of Kang the Conqueror in Loki, as the benevolent He Who Remains. For those believing that the Kang of Quantumania is the last iteration of the villain we will be seeing in the future of the Multiverse Saga, that will not be the case. It was partly the chance to play so many versions of the same character that drew Majors to the role. He previously said:

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will arrive in cinemas on Feb. 17, 2023.

“Yeah, absolutely. That’s what’s on the page. That’s what the IP says. I was cool, very cool. Kang just lives in his own world in the MCU. No spoilers here, but there’s so many variants of him. And with the powers that are the MCU, that intelligentsia and that brain trust there, they’re just really working to use the IP to its best ability, and it’s extremely humbling that they picked me to step into that. So I’m honored to do it, and I’m always excited to see what we’re doing. And yes, six years after Yale and ten years after North Carolina School of the Arts, my first drama school, it’s what you always hoped for as an actor. Kang is a career in itself. It’s either the cake itself or the cherry on top, I don’t know. But to play multiple versions, it’s just beautiful. It’s a workshop every day.”
