Werewolf by Night is nearly ready for release, and audiences are ready for a Halloween special with a classic horror vibe. Michael Giacchino, director of the upcoming project, has already shared the inspiration behind the TV movie. Films and shows such as The Wolf Man, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and The Twilight Zone greatly inspired the composer/filmmaker, and audiences can expect something similar from Werewolf by Night.
Since the Halloween special is just that, a special, fans aren’t expecting too much of the story to be connected to the overall MCU. However, in a new featurette provided by IGN, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige assures fans that Werewolf by Night will have some significant implications in the future. “We wanted to explore entirely new characters and entirely new sides of the MCU with this unusual, fun, and frightening spin on the supernatural,” Feige says during the behind-the-scenes look. However, despite the new characters, he says, “We are introducing a world that will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU.”

It’s unclear how Werewolf by Night will connect to the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the story seems self-contained. However, the official synopsis for the project reads: “Follows a lycanthrope superhero who fights evil using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline.” So, of course, the latest MCU project could connect to the Midnight Sons, Blade or be centered in an entirely new universe. Fans will discover the significance of the Halloween special when Werewolf by Night premieres on Disney+ on Oct. 7. The full featurette can be found below.
Michael Giacchino is Ready to Helm a Big-Time Project
Marvel / Disney
Michael Giacchino is a legendary composer, working on projects such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, WandaVision, Lost, and Cloverfield, to name a few. Now, he’s giving directing a shot after his previous two credits as a filmmaker went to a few short stories. When speaking about his The Twilight Zone inspiration with the Post Cred Podcast, Giacchino discussed how Werewolf by Night would share some similarities to the 1960s anthology series.
“To me, again, that was a cornerstone for what I wanted to do in terms of telling a shorter story, you know, that had bigger implications and talked about things that were bigger than itself,” Giacchino says regarding The Twilight Zone. “Twilight Zone, to me, Rod Sterling is a god and I just every day thank that he existed cause what he put out in the world to me was some of the best stuff ever.”
Fans can expect something similar to that series, as the show told independent stories in each episode. The director wants to do the same with Werewolf by Night while ensuring the project connects with what’s happening in the MCU. Tune into Disney+ next week to see the terrifying new TV special from Marvel and Michael Giacchino.
