From a simple getaway to a shawarma palace to central character reveals such as Hercules, MCU projects’ post-credits sequences have been crucial to the continuity’s progression throughout these years. Though post-credits have been a part of cinema since way before Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise did popularize the concept in modern cinema. Probably because the scale and expansion Nick Fury’s appearance in Iron Man promised were unprecedented and full of hope at the time. More than a decade later, MCU has crossed over to an entirely new saga, and the post-credits remain integral to this ever-growing shared continuity. The fans sit through the credits just to get a glimpse of what might follow in the franchise, and most often, the projects don’t disappoint.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Recently, at SDCC, Kevin Feige talked about how the post-credits in its recent projects are heading up to the culmination of MCU’s second saga. In the Hall H presentation, Feige unveiled some fantastic plans for the franchise’s future, including projects like Captain America: New World Order, Daredevil: Born Again, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and most exciting, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Talking with ComicBook.com, Kevin Feige explained that the post-credits scenes from the Phase Four films and television series are potentially heading towards the events of The Kang Dynasty. Though he clarified that not all sequences will tie-in; however, the producers’ efforts with these teases are to set up the next big crossover of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feige replied,
The two Avengers films will culminate the Phase Six of the franchise, officially ending The Multiverse Saga of the MCU. As we reach that end, countless more characters and stories will be incorporated into the continuity, making these Avengers films massively large projects.
The truth is, all of the tags are never just about the future. There are tags that are eating shawarma, Captain America saying you know you gotta learn patience, sometimes, you know, you wait for something that’s not worth it. So they are always fun for us. We don’t want everything to feel the same. So some of the tags will connect, and some of them won’t. Some of the films and shows will connect; some of them won’t. I think it’s just as important that we can have standalone introductory stories like Ms. Marvel, like Moon Knight, in addition to things that interconnect and build towards the larger story. A lot of what we’ve been doing has been building to this larger story, obviously with The Kang Dynasty and the Multiverse Saga, and now I think people will, I hope, come along for the ride. Both where it’s you’re on the express train to the finale, also when it’s fun, as many of our Phase 1, 2, and 3 films were.
Post-Credits of Phase Four Have Been a Blend Up Until Now
Until now, the post-credits sequences in the post-Endgame MCU projects have blended comedic effects and jaw-dropping moments. Multiverse of Madness’ used Bruce Campbell’s ‘Pizza Poppa’ for fun but also introduced Clea (Charlize Theron), a sign that parallel dimensions have begun to open up in the MCU. Similarly, Shang-Chi’s post-credits sequence gave us a mysterious tease, introducing the titular superhero to Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner. Moreover, No Way Home has led to different corners of Marvel’s Multiverse. In contrast, Thor: Love and Thunder introduce us to a larger world of Gods. Then there’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, whose two cameo appearances will probably lead to the newly announced Thunderbolts.
Post-credits teases have always changed things for continuity, and that’s what they are doing now. Since the MCU is heading into the multiverse, these end-credits stingers are opening more complex subplots, unknown to the wider audience; however, these striking stingers will shape up the events culminating in the two mega movies of The Multiverse Saga.
