Controversial actor Kevin Spacey has secured his next feature film role. Following several public allegations of misconduct, Spacey’s career had slowed down considerably as the offers from Hollywood instantly dried up. He’s since been focusing on films outside of the U.S., and as Deadline reports, this now includes a main role in the historical drama 1242 – Gateway to the West. It is a UK/Hungarian/Mongolian co-production and the plan is to sell the film at Cannes Market.
This will mark the biggest role yet for Spacey since the allegations against him were widely reported in 2017. It’s not entirely clear who Spacey is playing in the movie, but it chronicles the rise and fall of Batu Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan. You can read the provided synopsis below.

Kevin Spacey Has Been Delving Back Into Acting
Netflix
Last year, it was also announced that Kevin Spacey would be playing a cop in his first role since the allegations. This was for L’uomo Che Disegno Dio, aka The Man Who Drew God, an Italian drama directed by Franco Nero. Nero also played the main character in the film. He previously told ABC News why he had cast Spacey while most other studios and casting directors had cut ties with the actor.
“I’m very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film. I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie,” Nero said.
A veteran of the screen, Spacey had garnered widespread acclaim during his career up to 2017, during which time he was starring on the Netflix series House of Cards. When a slew of allegations was leveled against Spacey that year accusing him of sexual misconduct, he was promptly fired by Netflix from his role in that series. He appeared in the 2018 film Billionaire Boys Club, as that was filmed prior to the allegations, but the roles dried up pretty quickly for Spacey after that.
For his part, Spacey has adamantly denied the allegations. There have been lawsuits and criminal investigations launched as a result of the allegations, but Spacey has never been found guilty in a court of law.
