Kevin Spacey has pleaded not guilty to four charges of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent, HuffPost U.K. reports. The actor appeared at London’s historic Old Bailey Criminal Court this morning in front of Mr Justice Wall.
Spacey was officially charged last month for alleged incidents that took place between 2005 and 2013. During that time, Spacey was serving as the artistic director of the Old Vic theatre. Two counts of sexual assault pertain to one man, now in his 40s, for an alleged incident in London in 2005. Two additional counts, one for sexual assault and one for causing the victim to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent stem from a different man, now in his 30s, from an alleged 2008 London incident. The final count stems from an alleged April 2013 incident in Gloucestershire for the sexual assault of a man now in his 30s.

Spacey’s U.K. trial will begin on June 6, 2023, and is expected to last three to four weeks. The trial is scheduled to take place at Southwark Crown Court unless there are scheduling conflicts, in which case it will revert to the Old Bailey.
Just last month, during Spacey’s first U.K. court appearance on June 16, his counsel Patrick Gibbs QC told the courts that Spacey denied all criminality pertaining to the case. Gibbs also told the courts that Spacey returned to the U.K. to prove his innocence and “proceed with life.” At the time, Spacey was granted unconditional bail, which allows the actor to travel freely until his trial. During today’s hearing, the judge noted no objections to the continuation of Spacey’s unconditional bail, reminding the actor that any failure to appear in court is considered a criminal offense.
In a statement, Spacey claimed innocence, saying:

Netflix
Kevin Spacey began his acting career in the 1980s, first appearing in Heartburn and Working Girl. He rose to stardom in the 1990s with performances in the crime thrillers Seven and The Usual Suspects. The two-time Academy Award winner earned his first Oscar for his supporting role in The Usual Suspects. He received his second Academy Award for his portrayal of Lester Burnham in Sam Mendes’ American Beauty.
“While I am disappointed with their decision to move forward, I will voluntarily appear in the UK as soon as can be arranged and defend myself against these charges, which I am confident will prove my innocence.”
The actor continued to appear in film and television, and in 2013, he began to star as Francis “Frank” Underwood in the Netflix series House of Cards. He was fired from the series in 2017 after sexual harassment and assault allegations began to surface.
At the time, the streamer released a statement separating themselves from the actor:
Media Rights Capital suspended Spacey while they launched their own investigation and, ultimately, Spacey was let go. Netflix also canceled the production of the Gore Vidal biopic Gore, which would have starred Spacey.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of ‘House of Cards’ that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with Media Rights Capital during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.”
